I used to ride a 750cc around town during the first few years I was here. I was using my overseas license. Eventually (after a few warnings), I got my Singapore car license and sold the biker.

Now I would like buy a bike for weekend rides into Malaysia, but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it.

Apparently I need to get a license of under 200cc first.

I don't want to buy a 200cc motorbike, so how should I proceed?

Can I hire an under 200cc motorcycle for a bit of "refresher training" and then for doing the test?

I believe I need to hold the under 200cc license for a year before graduating to the next level. What is the maximum capacity I can ride with the next level license?

Thanks in advance.

You are refering to converting your overseas licence to Sg licence to allow you to buy and ride big cc bikes in Singapore?

Well, I've had a Singapore car license for many years now, but my foreign license does include bikes of unlimited capacity, so I guess I'd be taking the approach you mentioned of converting my overseas license.

This visit I noticed the "sticky" thread on the same topic. I don't know how I missed it before. I think I found the answer there although there do seem to be some grey areas.

Anyway, thanks for answering ViciousKitty
