Hi all, I'm now at lesson 4, anyone has some tips on getting the correct techiques? I went for it 3 times already, By 3rd time I finally can get onto the plank and stay on it smoothly, but still too fast, must be more than 6 seconds . When I try to go faster on pylon to meet the timing, I end up losing control and hitting the cones. For the e-brake not too bad, just need to improve on posture.

Start of plank throttle more.. Once on top go slow and look far ahead around last cones of slalom.

Slalom just throttle when going to next cone. When going around cone off throttle. Gear 2. Confirm can one.

For Plank, look far far, then move up in a fast speed, thereafter throttle abit then use rear brake at the same time. if you feel like falling off, throttle abit more then release once you are stable.

As for slalom, look far and swing your body when turning around the cones. If you can pass through fig 8, this should not be an issue.

Anyone noticed a blonde hair chinese girl in CDC? Quite chatty & funny person, kept nagging on her demerit points...hahaha

Chinese gal with rather short hair?

Guys, i passed my TP this morning/noon. Am glad not only getting back my license, also to bust the myth of those who ever revoke or especially due to my case of Drink Driving which many said TP will mark you till die.

Anyway, drive / ride safe, don't take risk, it's not worth it.

Congrats. Hope you learnt your lesson and not to repeat the same mistake again. As what one of the instructor used to say. Our licence is a privilege. Misuse it and it will be taken away.

Hello I am currently waiting for TP next month.

Can i actually go to cdc on wednesdays or maybe wednesday mornings go to the overhead bridges along the test routes to 'observe' riders? Or will it not be nice to do so as it may add unnecessary pressure or distraction to those taking tp?

Can i ask also, during tp, after we go circuit test, we have to wait after e-brake is it?

To exit e-brake, must both lanes on your right be clear moving going out?

How many TPs to 1 rider?

Please help answer my doubts.

I don't think the riders will be distracted if u r at the bridge....

After e-brake, proceed out on your own.

Exit e-brake is give way line, as long as not causing unnecessary inconvenience to other road users, just move out, it is not a STOP line anyway. Delaying in moving off also will cause you points if you keep waiting.

These days they let 1 rider move off at 1 time, although towards the later candidates, the circuit might get jam up a little bit & you maybe riding together with other candidates. Just do the circuit as they asked us to do, don't bother how many TPs looking at you because by right, you should be doing it the way they asked you to, whether or not people are looking at you or not.

Hi, I am now at lesson 5, went for it 3 times already, 3rd time is the only time that got no immediate failure, where I got the following:

Fig. 8 more than 11 seconds - 4 pts

Wobble when moving off / stopping - 2 pts

Wobble when changing lane / negotiating bend / turning - 4 pts

Unnecessary stopping - 2 + 2 = 4 pts (stop at e-brake give-way line when got no vehicles)

Improper turning - Wide turn 2 pts (coming out from fig 8 to crank course)

Fail to signal/give wrong signal - 4 pts (forgot to ask instructor is at where)

Total 20 pts. So end up, fail because of wobbling and minor mistakes.

Got any ideas on avoiding wobbling as much as possible? Also, I really need to get rid of my bad habbit of being jerky when waiting in queues at the various points (instructor gave me 2 pts for this in previous times also), is it because press too much or press too fast on brakes?

Also for e-brake give way line, must I stop to give way to vehicles only in left lane, or must give way to vehicle in the right lane also? Instructor told me to turn head right to check for vehicles before reaching give way line.

Posted

i also kena a lot of wobbling points when learning. :cheeky:

What I did, hope it helps:

throttle more when moving off. when changing lane, best is to maintain throttle. when stopping, try not to let the front fork dive down by using less front and more rear brake.

when exiting fig 8, while turning left, why not try and look at the middle of stop line? ( what I mean is the "starting stop line" of crank course )

iirc, at give way after doing e-brake, 2 lanes must be cleared then can come out.

after u change to gear 1 for e-brake and when u are checking back that time look at the 2 lanes before moving off. move off slowly if those 2 lanes got vehicle..

Don't give up. My fig.8 initially was 15 seconds, but before i passed 2b, i can hit around 7s with the YBR 125 on a good day.

I learnt my 2B at cdc and 2A at bbdc, share some stuff I learnt at bbdc with u...

Fig. 8 more than 11 seconds - 4 pts

Learn to lean the bike, lean your body WITH the bike, be smooth on the throttle.

Almost always use ONLY rear brake to control your speed. Closing throttle and reopening it suddenly (usually more than necessary cos u panic) causes the bike to jerk wildly.

Posture is important, grip tank tight, dun open ur legs, use ur abs (not your arms) to push your back backward (back forms a C shape), relax your arms a little.

(If the bike jerks and you grip the handlebars too tightly, it makes you wobble and be afraid)

Eyepoint far ahead (half a circle away). Correct posture also helps you look far.

Wobble when moving off / stopping - 2 pts

Wobble when changing lane / negotiating bend / turning - 4 pts

Caused by insufficient power, indecisiveness, or incorrect posture.

If your speed is too slow, rpm too low, and you aren't gripping the tank tight or sitting more upright, gravity works on the bike more than its motor.

Do not attempt to steer the bike while checking blindspot. Your mind will tell you to shift your body, and with your head turned, you can't really do it smoothly, esp at low rpm.

keep throttle constant while changing lane/nego bend/turning. that's y u need to set and adjust your speed way before the corner

if you are REALLY smooth you can still adjust your throttle in the corner though (prolly after a year)

Unnecessary stopping - 2 + 2 = 4 pts (stop at e-brake give-way line when got no vehicles)

During my time at CDC (2010), leaving ebrake area requires BOTH LANES in the same direction to be clear, else immed. failure. Different for BBDC though. You can't stop when there are no vehicles though.

On the other hand, if the front vehicle is stationary, dun go and keep looking at the side and crash into the guy in front. This happens a lot on the road, dun learn from them.

Improper turning - Wide turn 2 pts (coming out from fig 8 to crank course)

Regulate your speed before exiting. Doesn't mean you need to meet timing so you go fast on the exit.

If you go fast on the exit, you need to lean more, which means harsh braking while straightening out, increased risk of right leg down/jerking/wobbling.

Aim to get around 9.5s in figure 8 regularly, so that you have allowance for bad weather/gear jam while upshifting/exiting smoothly from fig 8 during the test.

Remember you should exit any minor road to the CENTER of the lane, not too close to the kerb (sharp), not too far (wide).

fail because of wobbling

Wobbling is not minor, try wobbling while ebraking, when u need to squeeze thru vehicles in an emergency, or when cars cut u on both sides.

Wobbling while stopping on a big/heavy bike, or with a pillion, can result in a fall/crash.

bad habbit of being jerky when waiting in queues at the various points (instructor gave me 2 pts for this in previous times also), is it because press too much or press too fast on brakes?

REGULATE throttle when moving off, brake smoothly and have correct posture while stopping.

you need power to move off in a straight line, but if you give too much power, you'll suddenly close throttle and the bike will jerk forward.

if you need to brake hard while stopping, do it smoothly, adopt ebrake stopping position - grip tank tightly, both brakes, more front brake, arms firm but not pressing down on the handlebar (in CDC i think this means locked), back arched backward into a C using your abs.

just before stopping, ensure that your front brake pressure is low (release gradually too) but i think the front brakes must still be applied when stopping (if not your light will go off and the tester knows you aren't using them). this ensures your forks go back up, so that your stopping does not appear jerky.

you can build low speed control by practising narrow plank (i dunno if they allow you to practise this in the mini circuit). posture on bikes is very important

Guys, I failed 3 times for my lesson 2 already :'( :'( I'm starting to feel that I'm not suitable to ride already. Is this normal? My last one the instructor say changing lane got problem. They can fail me based on just that one thing? I'm so discouraged..

Guns, fast cars, great guitars and awesome rides. Perfect kinda life.

Yes, it is normal for you to think this way. However, do not give up!!!

They did not pass you because they think you are not ready yet, it is really for your own good.

I bet some of us here took many times as well.. so don't be dishearted.

Anyway, what happen to your lane changing?

They can fail you for anything. As long as you do not do things as how you were told they can fail you.

Don't get too hung up about being a slow learner. That's a question of talent: some of us have it, some of us don't. Yet, regardless of talent or not, all who try hard will eventually pass.

Don't give up.

I spent around 1.2k in total, so you can imagine how many lessons and revisions I went through..

Alot of my rider friends said 'bike very easy la...'. Of course they said that, because they got their license!

Although I got my 2B now, however I can tell you that the learning process is not easy especially slow learner like me.

Sometimes, instructors passed me not because I passed (they really said that straight at my face), but they see that I am putting in real effort and ask me to go for more revisions, and I really did went for alot alot of revisions.

I know how you felt... the feeling is so low when you take back the booklet...

Shared with you how many times I attended to pass each lesson:

Enrolled on the 31/05/2012

Lesson 1: 3x

Lesson 2: 2x

Lesson 3: 5x (OMG!)

Lesson 4: 3x

Lesson 5: 1x (7 circuit revisions before lesson 5)

Lesson 6: 2x

Lesson 7: 1x

Lesson 8: 1x (6 circuit revisions, 2 road revisions before lesson 8)

1st TP test: 10 demerit with 1 immediate failed at eBrake.

2nd TP test: 16 demerit, passed on 12/12/12. :D

*Also took alot of revisions while waiting for TP test.

You will definitely see improvement in yourself after a few more lessons. So, never give up!!!

Hi guys, can see that you guys mostly fail just with immediate failure. I took mine last thurs at SSDC with 38 pts! From that i can see that i'm still not a good rider yet. Can give me tips? I had the most points under Moving and Stopping off. Thanks!
