Former five-times MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has won a new BMW sports car after setting the pace during the 40-minute 'qualifying session' at Sunday's final day of testing at Jerez.

In a further warning of his 2007 intentions, the Italian smashed the official (990cc) Jerez pole lap record with a 1min 38.394secs stunner, set in the closing stages, but nearest rival Dani Pedrosa – the previous pace setter – was only 0.133secs behind.

Last year's BMW winner, Colin Edwards, completed a strong showing for the Factory Yamaha Team with third, albeit 0.9secs from Rossi, with MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden a respectable fourth after two days spent outside of the top ten.

Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet underlined that he'll be a front row contender this season by taking his ZX-RR to fifth, just ahead of Ducati Marlboro team-mates Casey Stoner and Loris Capirossi. Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen, Kenny Roberts Jr and Honda LCR's Carlos Checa completed the top ten.

Gresini Honda's Marco Melandri, fastest during the first two days of testing, was just 14th fastest.

Normal testing will now continue at Jerez until Sunday evening.

I think the title should be "He's back".

What's wrong with "his back"? A back ache?

Don't think too hard about it. You don't need a reason.

JUST RIDE.
