Hi there...

My tyres needed to pump some air over this weekend. Wondering where to get it done?

I saw the air pump at some petrol station. Are they safe? Is the meter reading correct or not?

2) Also, i want to get an ERP cover. How much is it and where to get it?

Thanks.

As long as you use them correctly they should be safe. :)

If you don't know how to pump you can ask the attendants for help. Or go with someone who knows how to do it. Before you go, find out whats the recommended KPa or PSI for your bike's tires.

Best to pump when tires are cold.

Someday, home will be where my front wheel points.

true.. never never pump your tyres when they are hot .. its because the rubber expands and it wont give u an accurate reading.. thus when it contracts.. the tyre becomes very hard.

eerrm its the air inside that expands or the rubber?from what i know a "hot" tyre will have an increase in air pressure therefore giving you a false PSI reading

Manufacturers have different recommendations in regard to air pressures for tires. That includes wether to read pressure 'Hot' or 'Cold', to increase or decrease pressures etc.

For example, some tires will work better with a higher pressure sometimes, and lower at other times. Climatic conditions, solo or 2 up riding, hard cornering as opposed to a leisurely ride, wet or dry all have impact on pressure and grip.

The recommended pressures for your tire/bike combination can be found online. Try manufacturers websites. Invest in a hand held air pressure gauge, looks like a pen and worth every cent. The gauges at many petrol stations are not that accurate. The 4 stations near my place all give different readinga, by as wide a margin as 9psi.

Yoiu may want to 'test' a range of pressures, hot and cold to see what works best for you. Keep a record of tire pressures and conditions for a few weeks, with notes on how the bike responds.

Thats useful not just for race bikes, but anyone who wants to get the best from their own ride.

Well, I never inflate my bikes tyres at the petro station, as kirra55 said, those pumps are not accurate and vary from station to station.

I have this

and yes, I pump the tyres at home when the tyres are cold, this will give a more consistant and accurate tyre pressure. Beside, you are more relax, no need to do it under the hot sun, in the dark or squarting with your full riding gears on.

I just pumped mine last Thursday and realised that my rear tyre was actually flat. I've been riding for so long and I didn't even know it.
