advise needed regarding starter gear.

bike: 2004 piaggio x8(auto)

history: new engine + new gear system + open pod air filter (all 8 mth old).

story:

was riding half way last saturday and suddenly feels my bike like powerless after trying to accelerate. it seems to be the open pod air filter problem as the sound becomes different.

after i park my bike for a while, i try to start my bike a few times and it starts smoothly. i can still ride it to my mechanic. the only problem is whenever its in low speed can feel the bike like breathless and the sound from the open pod very diff from before. but when speed above 40-50km its like back to normal. as my mechanic is busy i left my bike with him.

today he get back to me and said that its the starter gear problem. *can anyone advise whats a starter gear? is it part of the gear? since i replace my whole gear system with the same mechanic is it suppose to be warranty covered if its part of the gear problem?
