Bought a Steelmate S881 motorcycle alarm from Tao Bao, and watch the video tutorial for the installation.

There are total 8 wires

Red - Connect to Ignition switch input

Orange - Connect to Ignition switch output

Blue - Connect to the Starter switch output (remote start)

Black - Connect to Battery negative terminal

Yellow - Connect to Left signal

Yellow - Connect to Right signal

Grey - Connect to crank shaft sensor (immobilizer)

Pink - No need to connect for (直流车电火)

I am puzzle how the grey wire connect to the crank shaft sensor immobilize the vehicle? Any expert to advice?

Crankshaft sensor sends pulse (square wave or other form) signal to ECU as the crankshaft rotates. ECU needs to read that signal before deciding to allow spark plug to fire. If you disable or interrupt that signal (maybe shorting to ground through the alarm unit or sending constant voltage to disrupt the wave), the starter will crank, but spark plugs will not fire. Effectively immobilising the vehicle. My guess is that it's to prevent the engine from firing if the crankshaft is not moving due to engine seizure or otherwise.(edit : on second thoughts, more like it's for the timing of the spark plugs. No signal, no rotation to calculate, no spark to time.)

At least that's my understanding of it. When I was doing some DIY on my bike, I uncoupled the CKP sensor and resulted in the above scenario, starter will turn to spin the engine, but no plug firing. Bike is not the same model as you, but idea should be the same.

If I'm mistaken, pls do feel free to expand or correct. Good to learn new stuff.

Speculate that the grey wire is shorting to ground or otherwise preventing that signal from being read by the ECU as long as your alarm is not disabled/handshake with your alarm fob.

Edit : Unless of course, you are saying that the grey wire is to disable the immobiliser in order to allow remote starting.

Sorry I cannot help on the wiring, my bike(ST1100) had the older steelmate alarm from previous owner that was triggering intermittently, so I bought the same exact model as yours and just replaced the main unit + horn, leaving the original wiring in place.

Just fyi on this unit though...

If you do not use your bike for some time(eg >3weeks), then it's better you disconnect the main connector to the alarm ECU.

I had issue with batt draining flat(ended up with dead batt) everytime I'm back from trip as my work requires alot of travel.

In the end found out this unit leakage current drawn is quite high, unplug it everytime prior to long storage and no more batt issues.

The alarm controller grey wire is for immobilizing the vehicle when the thieves break open the ignition lock and try to crank the engine. Your analysis is logical I will get a meter to measure the grey wire to see what is the output.

Thanks for the heads up, will do so if going for long vacation.

I have done the installation myself yesterday, everything works except for the remote start, the starter motor cranks but the bike will not start. I read the schematic and there is a signal send from the ignition switch key lock to the ECU when the switch is turned on. I am not sure what signal it sends to the ECU will have to read the manual in detail.

Edit: The kawasaki has a resistor in the ignition switch to step down the voltage to the ECU, the bike will not start if the ECU did not sense this.

The remote start works now(ignition switch off) I connect a 0.25w 100ohm resistor and a 1N4001 diode from the orange wire to the ECU.

i am reviving an old thread but anyway my question is related.

taobao has 直流 (2pins) 和 交流 (4 pin ignition) 。 translated i think its AC and DC.

for Singapore bikes that we have no control over the light, it just turns on.... is it just buy 直流?

thanks!
