Hi,

I am planning on cycle commuting to work mon-fri. The route will be from Big splash on east coast park to Changi, I was planning on going along the east coast park to bedok park connector then figuring out how to get to Changi business park from there.

My question is, can someone recommend a good entry level bike in Singapore to buy, and how much is it going to cost? My budget initially is $1000, though there is soom room there. Would I be better buying a used bike and having it serviced or getting what I can new for $1000?

Also, if someone can recommend how I get to Changi business park from east coast park I am all ears, going to try the route out this weekend!

Thanks!

Hi,

If you already know how to go from ECP to Bedok Park Connector, then you just follow the Bedok Park connector, along Sungei Bedok river (or so cal canal), reach Upper Changi Road turn right, folow into Simei Park Connector, keep going and you will reach junction of Xilin Ave and Upper Changi Road East, cross the traffic light you will reach Singapore Expo. From here you can choose to ride cross Expo or via Xilin Ave to Changi Business Park.

As for getting bicycle, it will depends on what kind of bicycle you will like.

= Foldable (easy, can bring up MRT during off-peak)

= Mountain bike type (just change the tyre to street tyre, so that you can have the flexibility to ride off-road)

= Hybrid (more like street bike, but with straight handle bar, comfortable to ride, big wheel, can go fast)

= Road bike

Question to ask : Where are you going to park your bike when you are working ?

If you are looking at using a bike lock to lock at designated area, then I will suggest to get the cheapest available bike (as thief of bicycle is very high)

If you have private and secured parking space for your bike, then it is worth investing $1000 into something better. As for what you can get for $1,000 really depends on which of the above you are going to get, and it will varies.

Happy trying out the route. ; )
