Hi Guys and Gers,

I need some advise here. I've stopped riding for like at least 9 years but has been driving a car. Now need to downgrade as car COE is up. Then need the transport thru n fro to work. Have been reading awhile and now need some advise as i intend to get a scooter like either a sliverwing or SYM, i know reviews for sliverwing is like the next best thing other than gold wing but its like up to individual rite?

So i kindly ask for advise on this which scooter is better? which bike should i buy? My last bike i rode was the Super 4 which my nick states.

What to look out for when purchasing a scooter and where is the best place to service a scooter. How much will the monthly maintenance cost? i remember that the cheapest and maintenance free bike i ever rode was the phanthom 200.

So please all seniors kindly advise me. Thank you:sweat:

It depends on what your budget is and what you want. Since you have decided to get a scooter, now the question will be which one?

If you want a fast scooter, probably Silverwing is good. If you are the relaxed type of rider, SYM GTS200 is good too.

You can probably also look at Kymco Xciting 400 or a lifestyle scooter like a Vespa.

As for maintenance, Most, if not all Asian-brand scooters does not have a high monthly maintenance cost. It goes with the mileage, not time. For scooters, belts and rollers are akin to chain and sproket on a S4, usually they last 10k-20k km, depending on brand of scooter.

Maybe you want to shortlist a few scooters, which I think you have, and go into these specific forums to find out what usually requires changing at what interval and the cost of it. Then calculate what will be your monthly mileage, since you are only using it for transport, and do your maths from there.

Hi atco22,

Thank u for your valuable comments. I've actually thought of sym too. But which 1? Haha I think I've read too many reviews. Symgts 200, joy max 300 n maxsym 400. I know the difference in mthly maintenance is the engine oil. I've also read that most of the sym has a regular maintenance of about 3000km-3500km which is quite a short interval. N they doesn't have oil filter but have air filter. Of cos sym has a lower budget n is within my budget range cos I'm using my car scrap $ to fully pay for it. Silver wing is on the high side.

My daily commute to work is abt 35 km which means that on average abt 3 mths then I will need to service once. So I'm fine with it. N also of cos FE is very dependable on the rider too.

Actually I'm also trying to ask for reputable bike shops to buy from. My previous bike that I bot from is bike production which was like almost 10 years ago. So I'm wondering whether they still ok in price? But I believe they shld b ok cos they've survived 10 years so far.

Oh ya I also hope that some sym owners out there can give me some valuable advise too. Which to get? The 200, 300 or 400. n also which reliable shop to go to for reliable repair n maintenance. That time my regular mechanic has left n became a car sales man haha.

Thank u again for all out there to help me on this.
