If you've been eyeing the Samsung SSD 850 Pro but can't quite afford it, the 850 Evo is an excellent alternative, if not a better choice.

 

Though officially an upgrade to the Samsung SSD 840 Evo, the new drive is more like the higher-end 850 Pro. In my testing, the drive was very fast, especially in the RAPID mode, and worked flawlessly.

 

Performance-wise, the new Samsung 850 Evo can't compare to the high-end 850 Pro, but for the price the new drive offers a lot more value for your money. In all, I'm very pleased with the its performance.

 

In fact, if you choose the 1TB capacity of the Evo, which share the same endurance as the 850 Pro, it's like getting a high-end SSD for the price of a budget one. This is especially true for Windows users who can customize the drive for even better performance.

 

On top of that, the five-year warranty, though just half as long as that of the Pro, is still one of the best warranties on the market.
