I would like to ask you all whether it is legal to buy those phillips HID bulb and fix onto our bike? I have seen many big fixing them. Just to ensure if these will be caught for illegal modification. If no, what are the intensity of the bulb that is allowed to be fixed onto the bike. I would like to fix one on my bike and don't want to be fined for that. Thank you:help:

HID lights, you don't change just the bulb.

You need to change the entire assembly plus add a ballast. Must find a place on your bike to mount the ballast (about size of a big pack of cigarettes). Minimum is $200+

The normal bulb bike use is H4 or H7, a HID bulb uses D2S...

Oh yeah, its illegal to have HID on your bike unless the lights come stock (BMW).

hard to explain... when u switch on a HID bulb. it will gif out a split sec of full brightness then it will dim itself down till its fully warmed up ..when its warmed up.. it will reach its full brightness..this process will take abt 6-8sec.. :p check out the advantages of HIDs.. cheers :cheeky:

HID is projection light right?

white light is just a normal bulb that exhudes whitelight..

I using philips diamond vision for my ride. Very white and very bright.

Stopped a few times on roadblocks and was not penalised.

Philips diamond vision is approved for road use anyway.. hehe

Well for a start, HID is a projector light. It has no fillament. It also runs cold (meaning its hot, but less hot  ), unlike the very hot normal light bulb. This is because most of the electricity is converted into light (normal buld most of the electricity is converted into heat).

This is why a 30 watt HID light is equal to a 100 watt normal bulb. It is more efficient in converting electricity into light. In the end its a lot kinder to your bike battery since it usually draws less power.

When you turn on the HID light, it is a bit like turning on a florescent tube light. There is a split second pause, not like normal lights which are "instant". Hard to describe, but when you see it you will know.

Dunno lei... Stopped at road blocks before. but they never ask me what i using..

Guess they are more focused on catching mods like the HID.. Changing the bulb should be harmless.

I went to mustafa to see the halogen bulb. They state is platium white. So that will be very bright. I am not sure if it is legal. So if i buy those philips diamond vision bulb, that goes to say it is also legal?

There was little to be gained by using higher power bulbs in a given reflector/lense setup. The reason is that when you increase the light power output you do not alter the beam's pattern because the pattern is determined by the geometry of the reflector and the optics of the lense.

If you look at the light that is put out by your some cars comes with HID , they are using projector lamp to aim the light and have very good light throw.

USing normal H4 or H1 setup, if u looked closely, those cars come with after market HID, dont really have good light throw and most cant aim their light well and resulted blinding motorists in front. Bikes I dont know, cos on the rd I havent seen one yet...

As far as blue bulbs are concerned, they are a waste of money. Not only are they cheaply made but they actually decrease the amount of light on the road, this is extremely dangerous when it rains/fog..... Hear me out....

Blue has an extremely short wavelength and thus will bounce diffract when it hits rain, snow, etc.... This is bad b/c the more it diffracts, the less light ends up on the road. Normal yellow has a longer wavelength and thus is not bounced off every drop of rain, it "cuts" through it.
