steps to buy bike

pls try to clear my doubts. if i were to buy a bike from buyers at sbf. what are the proper steps inorder for both parties not to get cheated?

 

example.

 

1. meet the buyer

2. take a look at the bike

3. check for problems, who's going to settle it

4. when both parties agree to buy and sell at that price

 

what's next?

 

1. when do the buyer gives the seller money? full sum or 50 before then 50 after?

2. when do buyer go get his insurance/vech ownership etc?

 

whats the common practices u guys used?
