yea... slowly do up. you'll get there. start with the impt things like your sparks, filters, carb sync and BRAKES. If i were you, i would take the opportunity to change out the EO out too....dont trust the damn shop if they say they did prior to selling to you. Better safe than sorry. Relax dude...i know how u feel. I bought my Rvf from a motorshop near Albert's. Situation exactly same as you. It took me alot of time and alot of $$ to get my rvf to its tiptop condition.

Dude...since you just got your bike from a motorbike shop...I'm assuming these things which is quite often the case with used bikes bought from a shop; 1) Your RVF might have been sitting at the shop...outside....under rain and sun. It may be out there a few months with parts rusting from rain water collection before you came along. During which, old petrol is caking up the insides of the carbs. 2) the prev owner may have not bothered to service the bike properly months before it was traded in to Albert's. Thus compounding the problem. 3) shops like these are only out to maximise profit. With little or no regard to your safety, well-being or level of satisfaction. They will say anything to get you to sign the papers....after you sign, what is is promised to you previously is thrown out the window. 3 month warranty?? Dude, from my experience you better not count on thier so-called warranty. As such, I believe your bike has no major issues...just that it is in a bad state of tune and neglect. That is why your batts are dead as well. The experience you relate corresponds to very dirty carbs that is out of sync. Your airfilter and spark plugs may need replacing too. It probably wasnt prepped properly prior to handing over the bike to you. Most shops would not spend the time or cost restoring or retuning the bike prior to selling. Especially so when RVF is quite freaking tedious to sync and service the carbs. Thi is typical of Singapore motordiams. My advise is that you go back to Alberts..demand they do a proper carb wash and sync for you free at least...since you got your bike from them in such a unridable state. If they refuse...which i wont be surprised...take the bike to your own trusted mechanic and have him do a good check over the bike.

Oh yea...one of the sucky thing about RVFs is its crispy thin fairings. Especially at the tail. I neglected to tell to NEVER apply force to that part..... Thaz why you see my tail always abit dirty even when i finished washing it. And yea...for the sake of the crispy thin fairings.....do slow dowwwwn on the uneven roads of JB. Some of the potholes are pretty destructive to the bodywork....especially the huge U turn back to SG after Shell.....take it easy man! hehe. Oh well.....all the more reason for that Tyga tail mod.............

WOW....nice job with the rim stickers dude!! But...but.....what is that i see on the rear brake lights panel??? is.....*GULP*...that a BIG crack there?!!? Anyway.....glad the outing turns out great for you guys! Man....u all really make me miss the good old days!

I know why! Read in a UK bike mag that they actually conducted some kinda pychological research about this. Herez the gist of it......if you ride like a fool on the road...reckless and heck, sometimes even unsure of what you are doing.....other road users tend to pay attention, because you stick out of the crowed traffic like a sore thumb. For one reason, they are afraid of thier own safety and also that you will ding thier shiny new $50,000 Corolla. They will actually notice you more and try to steer clear out of your way as much as possible. secondly if you tend to sometimes ride slightly faster than the surrounding traffic...you are safer too because you constantly stay out of other road' users blind spot (esp cars) by not riding the same speed alongside them. By moving slightly faster than the surrounding traffic, you are not blending into an inattentive's driver's periheral vision and actually makes u more noticeable. WHich is key to preventing those "Hey-Sorry-I-Didnt-See-you" accidents. Bad news is, you make yourself more noticeable to TPs too... heehee. Anyhooz...I take absolutely no responsibility in what i just say! Always abide the laws! Ride safe everyone!

Right on Raven! Long time no see..how ya doing? I agree with your statements too. Although RVF is definitely heavier than PGM by 20-30KG , it definitely doesnt feel like a pig in the corners. Its actually considered quite good in the handling department among its peers. When comparing mods, iz actually easier to mod the RVF than the PGM4. It doesnt even have to be "heavily mod" to overcome the top speed restriction. If you want more horsies, just slip on a less restrictive end can and tune accordingly. The PGM is harder to modify because you need to get yur hands on a hrc card 030. Even so, the bike needs to be slightly rewired to be able to accept the 030 card, else the CDI wont even allow the bike to start. Restriction is also present in the PGM4's pipes and airbox I believe. PGM3 doesnt have these electronic restrictions. But its hard to find one these days The japanese (Honda) incorporated all these restriction into the PGM4 because of thier government's HP and speed restriction for such classes of motorbikes. But the electronic card provision was Honda's way of ensuring privateer racers or those in the racing scene can still tapped into the bike's potential through the "proper channels" with the HRC department. Even so, many shops later soon found a way to rechip or modify the CDI to get around the problem. So......... Nevertheless, when modified near its potential, the PGM is definitely the sweeter bike of the 2. I did alot of research when choosing btw RVF and PGM. Both have its pros and cons. I never regretted owning RVF but i do regret not ever owning a PGM because right now where I am....they dont even have 2strokers. No PGMs, no RS, all mainstream big c.c 4 strokers. So boring. PGM is considered an enthusiast bike, here in USA, its considered exotic!!! So if you can get one in Singapore for 6000ish, I would say its worth it man. dont look too much into maintenance if you truly love this bike, anway its not that much if you regularly maintain it. Especially labor in SG...considered cheap already. Mai Tu Liao.

Try not to mess with the OEM wiring harnesses too much Suby! My suggestion is to tap directly from the battery and add a switch too. Alternatively....you know your left hand handlebar light switch? There are 3 positions. The middle position is not used. See if Ah Keong can help you tap the power from there. but Best thing is just buy back the original Honda Rectifier (metal fins with heat sink in the back). That one last me just as long without the fan mod. But i believe its more expensive than the SUper4's rectifier. Oh well...up to you la....iz your baby now! haha.

Hi Siao Liao, Cool man..so long liao and u are still with your RVF. Not many "long-term" rvfians now u know...hehehe. Yea, I sold my bike to Mr Sub_Zero and migrated liao. Now holidays here so, quite free to snoob around and post. Also Blame Sub_Zero for giving me the link back here to see him show off his bike. Idiot, make me regret only. Well...i try to share as much as i can remember lor. Its been almost a year since I am bikeless liao....so many things like Fuel capacity that u guys tokin about I also forgot! SL, the CPU fan u talking abt is good mod. I tot of doing it last time but then when my mechanic got me the new rectifier from Honda (for RVF), it lasted also last me 1 and half years without the fan! I forgot the part number but I think Sub_Zero has that old rectifier i gave him for reference...can ask him. Battery and rect lifetime can be extended significantly if you watch the way you "use" your electricals. For e.g....switch off headlights when starting bike, Dont idle too long, drain battery, dont ride bike frequently for short distances....battery cannot charge up enough or often enough and your batter will die prematurely. Also...brands of batteries plays a part too. That is all...gtg liao...family beckons......

Eh....slight correction. the 2 airducts dont really lead directly to the air filters. They lead to a cavity or "space" beneath the fuel tank where the OEM airbox can draw cooler air from when you are at higher speeds. The ducts existence has been very controversial as they do not lead directly into the airbox to provide real ram air....unlike the ZX400 i think. I posted a picture (from a japanese Honda website) in this thread which clearly illustrate what I'm tryin to explain above. But its almost a year ago...so if any newbies interested...can scroll back many many pages to try to look. hehehe. Cheers! Happpy Holidays Rvfians!

Hi Fellow Rvfians, I've bidded farewell to my RVF. Gave her a good wash and wax on Sunday and handed over the keys today.... it was a sad feeling...like loosing a little part of myself..fcuk..its just sad man. I mean u know; Through rain or shine, she stuck with me. We would brave the piercing cold of night and challenge the heat of day together. We would accelerate over clear open roads into the night, without a care in the world if we felt like it. I felt no fear as i flew, perched above her Honda Wings. Always together, nothing else mattered. Nothing. My right hand spurring her desire, the sweet purr of her V4 engine in turn, calms my soul and retains my sanity. This magic is called the Vforce. Written with pride and purpose across our side fairings...as if...giving fair warning of what is to come. To hell with all the RVFs comparo with its peers....."RVF vs XYX, RVF vs ABC, RVF is Expensive RVF got electrical problem la Blah Blah Blah," I can say...after 2 yrs and 8 months on this bike, I have no regrets man! Long Live the Mighty RVF , The Gem of 400s!! Haha..ok enuff with this Poetic sh*t, sorry i got carried away. I could care less if my statements above will instigate another Flame war with any non-rvfian.... this IS the RVF thread afterall! Well...from now till Thursday morn..incase i dun have time to post again, I'll like to say goodbye to all the Rvfians here, it was nice knowing all of ya. Take care , ride safe and May the Vforce be with you ( aHhahahaha......crap again..sorry) (P.S. The new owner of my bike is equally in love with the RVF and he will make himself known to this thread pretty soon. Hope the Lao Jiaos here can help the kid out if he have any questions on the RVF.) Bye guys! Shay

Hi noob. The rvf is particulary hard on drive train components becoz there is no Cush Drive. U will find chain and spocks not lasting as long as other bikes. My advise is; try the 525 if you are not running a size 160 tyre. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Guys, sorry.... being freakin bz lately....will try to upload pics soon. that nite i remember im not the only one taking pics leh......can the other peepz who took some snaps that nite post the pics here first?
