list down your affordable commitment (budget), preferred riding style, major usage, etc, then friends here can give better advice.

I am a recent scooter convert Piaggio BV400 from s4 spec3, no regrets so far. Such a joy to ride and comfortable too. The trade off, yeah change belt can be expensive, for smaller scooter is around 1xx, for bigger is around 3xx. It include engine oil, filter, belt, roller, gear oil etc quite lots of stuff, the actual total cost of changing belt actually include the usual engine schedule maintenance. The belt set for my bike last 20k, engine oil (1L for st200)interval 10k. Yes expensive compared to normal bike, you have to factor in scooter don't have sprocket and chain, no need to oil and adjust chain.

You have to ask urself whether u will be happy with smaller cc engine when u have the option of 400cc? I believe 200cc and above is more than enough for sg roads/hw but u will always wonder what if u are riding a 400cc or more.

Don't limit urself to certain type of bike, you have to find out urself which bike can give u the most riding pleasure. But if cost and maintenance is a factor, yes scooter is expensive than bike but just a fraction more only. For my case, after owning my new scooter for months i would say it is cheaper than my spec3 cause of the fuel consumption, service interval, amount of engine oil needed and so on. Insurance is cheaper as well. End of the day i guess my scooter is cheaper to maintain. There are other scooter to consider as well, vespa, mp3 etc
