Its been 6 years since i last looked for a bike. Now uncle liao looking for scooter with decent power and getting lazy to change gear. Surfed the forum and garage sales abit saw a few models.

If i am looking for a scooter with decent power and cost for long term usage mostly riding with pillion what are the recommendations nowadays? I noted the following models but please help me highlight the benefits and drawbacks especially;

1. SilverWing 400

2. Yamaha Maj 400

3. Honda 750D

4. Tmax 530

Appreciate suggestions and any latest cost info if available to share. Ongoing maintenance cost will definitely help me alot.

look out for the new Piaggio MP3 500, very safe and high tech bike

3 wheels, ABS and Traction control new model has a bigger storage and 40hp good enough for 2up riding and long distance rides

Gilera Fuoco is no longer in production, Piaggio also has tried to sell Gilera to BMW

beside it has a smaller underseat storage no ABS no traction control

Looks like Gilera will sieze to exist in the near future and be absorbed into the Piaggio brand

silverwing is a good choice...exp at first but cheaper to maintain after tat...2 cyclinders so decent power for 400cc

i rode tmax 500 before...have power n handling but more exp to maintain than silverwing... eg the transmission vbelt interval is abt 10k km sooner than silverwing...fc abt 20-22km per litre

tmax 530 more expensive n runs on 2 belts...tats all i know

oh ya n tmax have better brakes but silverwing more underseat storage

Concur that, rode 04 Tmax and 08 Silverwing before, each bike has its pro and con. If you value handling and power, Tmax wont disappoint but more ex to upkeep than SW such as tyres and belts. If you value FC, storage space and cheaper maintenance, then Sw with Honda reliability wont disappoint you.

ok i will go read up on the Swing/mp3-500. Actually my main concern is the ease of repairs with easily available parts, low maintenance cost and build to last. I will definitely going to install a topbox, but more underseat compartment space is something i won't mind yeah.

Any worthy thing to note about Swing/MP3 on any parts that noticeably keep giving problems? One thing to point out is that i will probably never zhng a single thing on the coming scooter purchase so if they come with undesirable shocks or any core components appreciate if you guys can point out for me to note.

If low maintenance is your concern you might wanna consider

1. Piaggio x10 350

2. Sym Joymax 300i

3. Kymco Downtown 350i

All these bike have huge storage space and decent HP for city riding and weekends touring trips

Again with Piaggio being the most ex & advance with ABS & traction control while SYM being the most value buy

Silverwing or Tmax bro.

SwT400 has never given me much problem during the years I own it.

Tmax has a long horde of riders that can vouch for the power and handling.

if you are concern with FC, then stick to 2B bikes man.

or maybe a Vespa GTS300 if you are looking for a lifestyle bike.

maintenance of the Tmax is it like very much higher than SW? Anyway whats the difference in price between this 2 models? Like in the last 3 months for a brand new?

bro u need to compromise some here n there...

tmax more exp than silverwing but tmax offers more power n better handling than silverwing...

brakes also better...

their fc abt 2-5km per litre apart only

silverwing maintenance lower than tmax n powerful enough to tour or go fast...as well as storage space bigger than tmax...

100cc apart but different class in terms of sg licence

both machines difference abt a few thousand...

the tmax 500 will be cheaper to run than the 530

current coe the silverwing might have breached the 20k mark...cos silverwing more exp than s4...tmax should be abt 24k

ok thanks for the price range update. I think Tmax price range is out of my league after much consideration. I will just settle for SW. Have to start worrying how to protect the seats, 95% of my parking spots are either direct under the hot sun both at home and at work with resident kitties in the night.

Burgman is still better than Swing if you had never try how topass judgement it purely bias eg. Burg is lighter than Swing

Burg has twin front disc brakes .Burg is mono shock absorb for the rear no ugly pogo sticks behind .Burg has flat foot rest. For pillion passenger important touring n not pegs. Burg is aesthetically sexy .Swing has 1 plus point is a twin engines.but fuel consumption slightly more than the Burgman 400. Quote base on experience

Posted

i was only comparing silverwing n tmax...my judgement based on my experience on a tmax...burgman is expensive tats why i don even wanto consider as i only see the 650 not the 400
