one question on HID.....

there are instances whereby the stock headlamp covers melted after long period of using HID....does it happen?

Do we need to change the headlight covers in order to withstand the power of HID?

what is the common k (5000k ,8000k)?

BurnZ : i will suggest u not to put on pilot ligths into ur busa.. because installing pilot lights means u need to drill holes to fit the pilot bulbs (T10). Not worth doing.. not to mention urs is a class 2 bike. Ur headlight is using H7.. seriously.. very easy to instal HID in ur bike. if u need help i can help u.

Gweester : The temp of HIDs is much much much lower den Halogen bulbs. those that u heard of are those 35watt bulb(bulbs tat r normally used by kups or phantom, etc etc) but replace it with 55watt bulb(bulbs tat r normally used by super 4, 954, R1 etc etc) w/o changing the original socket to an aftermarket one and so the socket melt. not the headlight casing. headlamp casing wont melt because of that.

For eg. my original bulb uses 35 watt HS, but i haf changed it to 55watt H4.. to prevent the melting of socket tat causes short circuit, i changed the socket. tats all.

No more regrets.

New Type plastic headlamp casing will melt - if U use over specs( wattage) bulbs especially Halogens. I have seen a CBR150 headlamp begining to melt, the new rider was using a 35/35watt HS Halogen - the original is a HS 18/18watt bulb.

:giddy: :sorry: Hi Fatbiker, today went down to autobac & saw tat they selling a set of HIDs at $165. They can even manage to undercut u somemore by $25. Do u think u can give us an even better price  I need a set of H4 HIDs. Hopefully as soon as possible :sorry: Pls dun tulan me Fatbiker :giddy:

Siao lah bro... confirm will not Tulan you lah.... I will be concentrating more on the bike's HID where longer cables are required and that does not really can be cheaper because of the low demand fo the time being. :cheeky:

I think that the HID at AutoBacs is a bloody good deal

But check this few things first....

1) Make sure that the wire is long enuff for you. The wires tends to be shorter for car's HID i.e. around 50-60cm only. You might have difficulty finding a place on bike to install the ballast.

2) If you are thinking of installing the ballast on the plastics (be it your "sai tao" or your side fairing) make sure that the ballast is water-proof... or at least weather proof. You really do not want to play water with high voltage.

3) Make sure they have the correct bulb type (H1, H7... etc) and the correct temperature that meets your requirements.

If everything is fine... GO FOR IT!!!! MAI TU LIAO!!!! :cheer:

Mr Limbat... how much is the high tension extension cable for HID and what is the length?

It might end my struggle with my supplier in getting them to make a mould for longer cables...

Cheers...

Actually, because HIDs run higher voltage, its not nessessary for wires to be any thicker than stock ones. Just in case though, I use slightly thicker ones.

Anyway, Fatbiker - were you able to get the ones I asked?

Your supplier should have stock of these high tension cables, if not wat type of cables r they using in their HID set being supplied to U........... :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

Do also show me the connector as well - U will need the same type of connectors to extend longer. :cheer: :cheer:

Hey...Cheeko.............I 4got to ask U - does autobac really sells Bike HIDs kit at s$165 or did U take the price of a Car kit & divide by 2 ... ley........... Similarly at Fatbiker source for the HID - most likely the maker are tooling for car & he just separated the left & right into Bike Kits. There is nothing wrong wif this pretty smart :thumb: , I must say - except the complete wire harness is not long enough.

The melting problem U mentioned above are cammon for Halogen bulbs. HID bulb at 35watt producing 4,000 lumens of lights - runs much cooler than Halogen. 5,000 & 8,000 kelvin are the color of the HID bulb lights - nothing to do wif power (lumen), so no U dun need to change the headlamps.

:giddy: I forsee tat price of HID might 1day go down to price which is comparable to those high end halogen bulbs like philips vision series......... :giddy: Maybe cheap until no need to worry abt spoil & repair, just throw & replace new set, like BATA shoes :giddy:

i agree the price will go down in the near future especially with heaps of people installing HIDs.....

just hope LTA approves it man....

save the trouble....

$330 for a pair of H4 HID at autobac w/o hi-lo

$520 for a pair of H4 HID at autobac with hi-lo (hi-lo using a sliding mechanism to move the HID to shine at a higher angle, not using a halogen bulb)

for other bulb types like H7, H1 which do not have the hi-lo beam mechanism is priced at around $590 a pair which includes installation for cars la.

No more regrets.

Like Cheeko said s$165 maybe U can share a set wif him. I dun mind selling u guys the high tension cables + connectors but they might not be similar in size.

If U guys buy from Autobac - they can install as well right ?? Do take the trouble to DIY - it is really Plug & Play..... laaaaa

We are retailing our Zoomlite HID bulb set at S$110 for bike & our current HID stock are spec at 6500kelvin - HID white color.

Well, wif modern plastic headlamp casing, more riders & drivers using their HID responsibly - LTA might just come around more quickly to see the advantage of HID system.

Hey Limbat, I'll pop by tomorrow afternoon for the relays k.

I think what it needs is a blocking diode.

What they do is sort of mass produce the HID systems... i.e. they will mould the longer cables to ballast or something like that. They are not willing to do something different from the present production system if the quantity is small.. at the smae time, that might be an excuse to ask for a larger order quantity or charge a higher price, what a dork...

Anyway, the high tension cables I need should be around 80 cm, connecting the bulb to the ballast. As for the connector, I will take a photo and post it here later (but I thot should be same for all HID ) I think I will need around 10-15 sets.

I onky need a rough quote... Looking forward to your PM
