Do you mean exporting to Malaysia? It is possible to do so. Once you have chosen your bike, u need to apply for export. U might wish to get the motor dealer to assist you. Try to get those experience dealers such as Dexing (Ubi), Mah P/L, Loois (Kaki Bukit) and so on.

it depends on what is purpose of owning the bike? to ride in singapore? ride in malaysia?

if your purpose is to ride in and out of singapore, you have to own a singapore licence.

if your purpose is to ride only in malaysia, then you can actually reg it in singapore, ride to malaysia and report lost.

Dino,

Spitfirebikers in KL had this debate once. Unfortunately for you, the Malaysian government taxes heavily on imported bikes and the need for an AP (Approval Permit). The AP alone will double the price of the bike. If you want to export the bike from Singapore, you can check with the bike shops or scrap yards such as Ah Ann (9625 6549).

Also, if you're thinking of getting your S'porean friend here to buy the bike & ride on his insurance, you have to obtain a letter from JPJ to certify your licence as required by the insurance companies. Then when you ask from JPJ, they will ask you to give up your M'sian licence. One way to bypass this is to retake the license in S'pore from beginning to end.

If you're a work permit holder, you can own a S'pore bike if you convert your licence. That too, JPJ will ask you to give up your licence.

It's a sad fact buy you're not the only one.... My spitfirebiker pals as well as Bentong Bikers (my uncle is a member) have been trying for ages to reduce the price of Superbikes but to no avail...

Another way is to scout the M'sian Superbike Forums for cheap deals.... At least it's less trouble...

there are ways to have both sg and msia licence w/o having to give up either 1.. not convenient to disclose on forum though..

bro, i'm afraid that you are wrong.. as long as the he/she has the relevant immigration approval to stay/work/study long term in sg, he/she can buy a bike under hire-purchase. everything will be registered under his/her name.

just that during the signing of the agreement, he/she will need a local guarantor.

cheers!

ps: i know because that's what i'm doing now.

Bro Barongan 78,

Still is the question of insurance. If the bike is S'pore registered but owned by a foreigner, he still cannot apply for insurance cos the insurers will only insure a S'pore licence holder or a M'sian licence holder with a JPJ letter. Which goes back to the same since JPJ will ask him to give up his M'sian licence if he wants the letter.

My uncle from Bentong wants to own an ST however, unsuccessful because of this. He cannot even ride on my insurance also...

if the bike is registered under a sg plate, the owner/rider will need to hold a sg licence, only then the insurance will cover. nationality doesn't matter, impt thing is that you got the sg licence.

msia licence with JPJ letter? a conversion fr msia to sg licence will only require the holder to take the BTT. other nationality will need a copy of their driving record from their home country.

and like i said before, there's loopholes to hold both sg and msia licence.

EP/DP? you referring to employment pass/dependent pass? as long as you are staying in singapore for long period of time, and wish to operate a sg-plate vehicle, you need to convert your licence. whatever pass granted to you doesn't matter.

sg insurance will only cover local licence holder.

Bro, my mom is a S'porean living in JB who got her licence there. She wanted to convert her licence to S'pore one but the Driving centres require a letter from JPJ....

PM me for the loopholes please....

ah... no wonder.. special case la.. then no choice have to get letter from JPJ. but then again, doesn't makes sense either. overseas licence from aussie or US or UK, TP conversion doesn't require letter from the origin of the licence.. hmmm..

My sentiment's exactly....

It seems that only reputable licences from certain countries are exempted from this. Perhaps this has something to do with their testing. As we know, drivers from specific countries are not exactly the safest bunch of drivers/riders so we often wonder how they get their licence. Perhaps this has got something to do with it??

Or another guess is the fact that it has something to do with ownership. Perhaps the M'sian authorities are afraid that too many M'sians might jump to S'pore licences so that they can own cheaper import vehicles and they've made that request to S'pore to insist on the JPJ letter...???

Whaddya think??

"Keep your friends close but your enemies closer"

yup,,

i think m'sian government a bit to harsh on this.

what they need to protect?

it is not the same like proton issues,

they suffer us a lot in m'sia for imported cars.

Yup dino,

It's the same reason the S'pore government has the 3/4 tank rule for petrol. To protect their own...

So, in your case, "Beli Barangan Buatan Malaysia" ???

Unless you can convince Naza to rebadge superbikes like they rebadge Hyundai cars and call it Naza... Then, it will be cheaper cos the vehicles are assembled in Malaysia. No need AP.
