Importing 49cc Bike

Hi guys, I am looking to import a Honda Motocompo from Japan.

 

However I am not looking to ride it, it's for collection purpose and not for street use. Is there anything I should do or avoid?

Name Honda Motocompo

Engine AB12E 49 cc (3.0 cu in), air-cooled, two-stroke, single

Power 2.5 hp @ 5,000 rpm

Torque 0.38 kg-m @ 4,500rpm

Transmission single-speed, automatic clutch

You can try to import it, but remember, even if you don't register it for use on public land, there's still an import tax.

Take note of either item 87111012 or 87111092. There is an excise duty of 12% like normal motorcycle.

 

Other than SG Customs, I don't think LTA will chase you if it is kept inside your house because importation is not their business. Otherwise all those bike shops that bring in pocket bikes and dirt bikes that cannot be registered wouldn't have been able to do so.

Hi! Do I need any documents from the seller prior to the shipping? As I will be getting it off a private owner and wonder if I need any of those.

I recommend you ask the seller for the vehicle VIN number, Motocompos have VINs. And figure out what is the exact model designation Honda gives the Motocompo. Contact customs, ask them if the vehicle is regulated, or exempt from road-regulation first.

 

This is because Singapore has a law that does not allow vehicles older than 3 years from manufacture date to be imported, but nobody knows whether this rule also applies to unregulated vehicles.

 

If they say okay, you can proceed to buy it, then have seller ship the bike and fully declare the contents and provide you the original INVOICE. Also the invoice for shipping as well. Might not be necessary, but better to get it to cover your backside since they are required on normal motorcycles, just in case Customs asks for it.

 

Customs will call you down to pay duty and fees when it arrives in Singapore before you can collect it.

 

Honestly speaking, most of the paperwork has to come from your side rather than the seller.

Since gov is giving cold hard cash $3500 to scrap by old bike.

 

I need a exporter who can export out my deregistered old bike out of Singapore.

And then import it in as spare parts or display unit.

 

Really want to keep this sentimental value motorcycle.

 

I stay in a condo, so there is a private place(non-public road) to store the classic old bike as safe-keep.

Shipping it out legally.

And then LEGALLY ship it back in as 'whatever category' it is allowed to be imported in.

No intention to ride it.
