I'm starting this thread to share with you guys some useful Applications and Games for your Window Mobile Enabled Phone.

Difference Between VGA & QVGA?

VGA (Video Graphics Array) is 640x480 (307200 pixels). QVGA (Quartrer VGA) is 320x240 (76800 pixels - note that even though the resolution is HALF, it's in two dimensions which makes it a QUARTER)

Before we begin, it's important to understand that there are two types of Pocket PC installation files: (1) those which must be run and installed from your Windows PC (usually .EXE files), and (2) those which must be transferred to your Pocket PC before they can be installed (usually .CAB files).

 

Tutorial: Install Software EXE File to Pocket PC

Run the installation file on your PC by double-clicking it on your Windows Desktop. This should be done while your Pocket PC is synced.

The installation program will install files to your computer's hard drive, then establish a link with your Pocket PC, copying the needed files to your handheld's onboard memory:

If you have a Windows Mobile 5 handheld and above, you'll see a pop-up on the Pocket PC's screen to confirm the installation. Tap "Yes." If you have a flash memory card installed, a second screen will also appear allowing you to choose the installation destination, internal memory or flash card. Make your choice and tap Install. Allow the process to complete:

The program is now installed. A soft reset may be required for some software installations. To run the program, locate it in your Programs menu by tapping Start > Programs.

Tutorial: Install Software CAB File to Pocket PC

Some Pocket PC / Windows Mobile software requires that it be installed directly from the Pocket PC. These software setup titles are usually distributed as .CAB files.

 

The first step is to move the .CAB installation file you downloaded to the Pocket PC. First, sync your Pocket PC with your Windows PC. After synchronization, select the Explore feature from ActiveSync's main screen.

The Explore feature allows you to browse your Pocket PC's internal storage like you would browse your computer's hard drive(s) in My Computer or Windows Explorer. Once the Mobile Device explorer window is open, go to your Windows Desktop, or wherever the file you want to move to the Pocket PC is stored. Right-click it. When the menu drops down, select Copy. Return to the Mobile Device explorer window, right-click somewhere in the window, and select Paste:

The .CAB file will be moved to the Pocket PC. Allow this process to complete. Remove your Pocket PC from its cradle or disconnect it from its sync cable. On your Pocket PC, go to File Explorer in the Program folder on the Start Menu.

Find the file you moved in File Explorer. When you find it, double-click it. It will install itself on your Pocket PC and add itself to the Start Menu or the Programs folder.

You're done. The program will now appear in the Programs folder:

Once the software has been installed, feel free to delete the .CAB file from your Pocket PC's memory if you wish.

YouTube Player is YouTube search/player application which featuring full FLV.

 

It allows you to search for videos in a nice friendly Windows Mobile app and then plays the full FLV video (not miniscule MPEG4 versions) with its own player.

 

This app can download the FLV videos for offline use and also then extract the soundtrack to an MP3 file.

 

The application is written in a mixture of .net and C so you need the .net runtime, v2 or v3.5.

 

The video player overlay is hacked out of TCPMP and the FLV part is based on FFMPEG.

 

Things planned:

Support for YouTube logons, video uploads, user favorites and better caching/buffering.

 

Things not planned:

• Other video sites.

 

Known issues:

• Square mode not quite right.
  
• Other character sets (Chinese etc.) don't work apparently.
  
• Close button sometimes takes a few pushes.

 

*Note: Everybody should note that this application will eat bandwidth, no consideration has been made for data consumed, so Wifi/ActiveSync or unlimited 3g only, be prepared for a big data bill otherwise. Won't work well on GPRS anyway as FLV vids are quite sizeable.

Although S2U2 is now called v1.45, it doesn't mean it can be run perfectly on your device. Thanks to different devices produced by different vendors. So, please test it before use it everyday, especially the CallerID function.

 

S2U2 is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device. And it's has a CallerID function (some devices may not work, so please try it first); and S2P control plugin.

 

S2U2 is the new version of Slide2Unlock because the old one is a RAM hunger and running it at Landscape mode caused a lot of troubles. So the author started to rewrite the whole thing in C++... and, here it is the new born baby - S2U2. As a new start, this is the most basic version, i.e. it does not have the Caller ID, unread xxx notifications, etc...

iContact is an all-inclusive finger-friendly contact manager for Windows Mobile PocketPC phones. It's easily skinnable, intuitive, and replaces the standard Windows Mobile contact chooser.

 

This program started out with larna's open-source iContact v0.6, and ran with it!

 

Two skins are included by default: "default" and "iPhone". The "default" skin has a diamond-like look and feel, and the "iphone" skin was designed to be as similar to the iPhone look as possible.

 

iContact settings can be found in the Windows Mobile system settings menu. A soft reboot may be required after installing iContact before the iContact settings icon will appear in the menu.

 

*Note: iContact v0.9 will not work with Windows Mobile 2003 or non-phone devices. Don't try to install it.

Big Two (Da Lao Er a.k.a Chua Dai Di) is a very popular card game in the Asian countries.

You go around putting Poker hands, and the first to put down all the cards wins.

In this game, you're playing against 3 computer players.

 

Based on Woo Kok Tang's Big Two for Palm, but I rewrote it from scratch.

The rules are slightly different from that version.

• To open General Settings Tap and Hold on background.
  
• To open Icon Settings Tap and Hold on desired icon.
  
• To enable/disable Windows Startup open General Settings and check/uncheck the option.
  
• To save/load Themes and settings Tap and Hold on Battery and click on Themes->Load/Save and choose the file.
  
• To minimize Tap and Hold on Battery in the main screen and click on minimize.
  
• To view all Pocket PC status info Tap and Hold on Battery in the main screen and go to Status menu.
  
• To view AM/PM hour go to Regional Settings in your pocket pc and set correctly your Timezone and Time settings.
  
• To exit click on battery in the main screen.
  
• To add shortcut to a folder in the command line use "\windows\fexplore.exe" and in the argument set the folder path.
  
• To add shortcut to a midlet java in the command line use "[the path of your java manager]" and in the argument set the parameter of your java application (Es: Command: "\windows\jmm.exe" Arguments:"-r"Gmail","Google","Gmail").
  
• To add shortcut to an internet address write in command line the internet address.
  
• To Copy/Swap an icon tap and hold on 1 icon and choose Copy/Swap and after tap and hold another icon and choose Paste here/Swap here.
  
• If iFonz close when hit the "Red Button" after a call, assign a specific button of your PPC for restart it, set it in PPC settings.
  
• If your Pocket PC is old or slow go to General Settings and disable all Special Effects and set Animation to "Nothing".
  
• If you do a lot of changes in General Settings and iFonz become slow, restart it.
  
• To go in debug mode create a file "Debuco" in the iFonz directory and use the program. In the folder I create a new text file called Logfile.txt with all operations and errors.
  
• For lock device and show a big image of caller whe you receive a call use S2U2 program (The best ever from A_C).

 

There are a lots of options, discover all and set as your flavor. Tested iFonz on HTC TyTN and all goes good.

FEWidgets is a widgets for Windows Mobile. This application is only for WM 5/6 Pro. (i.e Pocket PC with Phone).

 

To install:

• Check you have Windows Mobile 5 or 6/6.1 Pro. (i.e Pocket PC with Phone).
  
• Check you have .NET Framework 3.5 installed.
  
• Check you have Flash 7 for Pocket PC (FEWidgets won't work with Flash Lite).
  
• Install FEWidgets-V1.0.0b4.CAB.
  
• If you have a VGA device or want other backgrounds, place them on images directory on the application directory. Images will NOT be scaled.

 

*Note: You can also activate it as a Today plugin (Settings -> Today -> Plugins, check FEWidgets and uncheck everything else).

 

Important:

Tasks/Appointment widgets only support Latin characters.

When it comes to file operations, the default Windows Mobile File Explorer is quite limited. This is a freeware by Hou Ming that addresses all the missing features that should have been included in the Windows Mobile stock File Explorer.

 

Here are some of the fantastic "must have" features it adds:

my budget is only around $500 plus re-contracting my line, so most prob i'm getting the omnia 8gb. with that price range for htc phone, i can only get htc touch diamond. but the spec lost out to omnia leh...

 

any reviews on omnia? those users on hwz claimed that omnia owned iphone and htc touch.
