When I pull my brakes, the rear brake light flickers or doesn't go brighter sometimes.

Anyone had this problem or know the solution?

Either conventional bulb or LED the common cause would be a loose connection or oxidation on connection. Check them if you know how. This few days rain, check for shorting with condensation and water on some electronic components happens usually with LED system. See if it still flickers when the scoot dry up with hotter weather. WD40 does wonders.

FYI I'm riding a kymco downtown 300.

No I did not because I only happened to read the motoman article after a few days upon collecting my scoot. I called agent that I want to change oil early and they say no need until 800km. I say but I want to change early can. I told them that my milage is 200km but I still want to change as Im afraid of tiny metal debris. They say they cange so many downtown all very clean and no debri so no need.

Ha ha, I cannot wait, so bought 2X mobile mineral oil 20W50(yes that is my factory recommended grade) and mobil premium synthetic gear oil 75W90. Change only 2 without oil filter change as I assume that if the filter is filled with metal debris them it will make the tolerance for particle to pass through smaller ha ha my theory.

When my 800km up I went and change oil and they happen to not change the oil filter also. The oil they use is GT don't know what funny brand, felt uncomfortable so change at 1200km with Caltex Havoline mineral 20W50 with an oil filter change this time. Next oil change will be at 5000km. Have to say the GT funny oil felt better than the current Caltex hmmmm??? Funny oil with Grade G rating felt better than Grade M (Caltex). Caltex can feel the drag and not as powerful.

Where is ur filters located? Wonder where the Maxsym is.

That is a very heavy oil.

My kymco oil filter is located on the right hand side below the dip stick which is block by center tube of exhaust. It is a round paper filter without metal casing. The nut with a flange like cover is located upside down. You can see the silver thingy below is the oil filter cap.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I once owned a Nissan Sunny which I bought brand new. It was the first electronic fuel injection model years ago. Frequently stalled on the road for no reason. Sent it back to the agent many times but they also couldn't fix the problem permanently. Finally sold it off and swore never to buy a Nissan again. Indeed, bought a few cars since, but never a Nissan for me again. But I guess it was luck because other Nissans didn't seem to have this problem.

Sometimes you need a really skilled engineer to fix such problems. Hopefully, someone from Mah could solve your problem correctly.

That's why it is very important for Taiwanese scooter/bike manufacturer to research and test their unit throughly before selling and leaving factory. It is with simple things like these that make consumer more weary on consuming scooters/bikes made in or from Taiwan. Here is another potential future customer gone for good. One rotten apple spoil the whole basket of good apples.

It has 3/4 tank of petrol still.

John Mah happened to be at the shop just now and we had a cordial discussion ;) What they did was to change the whole fuel system from the fuel line to the fuel pump to carburetor. Hopefully this time it works ..... So far I'm quite impressed with their warranty.

My TMax served me well for 2 and half years before the fuel pump failed. I think you got me mistaken for hagakelvin or something who bought a 2010 model.

The good news is my GL1800A12 will be in tmr and delivery should be around early Dec ....

Took delivery of my ride this afternoon and survived my 33 km ride to Punggol and back home in the Hougang area. A bit unsure at first, but gained more confidence after a while. Went up to 100 km/hr for short stretches -- accelerating and decelerating frequently as advised by Motoman. Punggol is relatively free of traffic in the afternoon, so I could put the machine through its paces quite safely. According to the guru, I should now change my engine oil. Will probably do it later this week, perhaps at Future Scootering.

Posted

Referring to MotoMan's recommendation, the engine oil and oil filter should be changed after the first 30 km! Has anyone actually done this? This may be too unusual for the workshop people and they may even insist that this is not necessary at all. Comments?

Posted

No harm changing. Most would say waste money and time. Your new bike just this once only for early change. Then again I can safely say that most owner wait until 1000km with no problems. Since you already follow motoman suggestion, just go ahead and change with a better mineral oil :D

Posted

I feel the same way actually. The one who sold me the bike at Mah already told me that I would be wasting money. I referred him to MotoMan's article and will speak to him again tomorrow. Will probably do it at Mah cos am collecting a raincoat from the place tomorrow.

IMHO, the best is folllow the operating or owner's manual! All the contents like tire pressure, periodic EO change etc etc are there for good reasons.

Ordinarily, I would agree. But I read this page, plus other pages written by MotoMan and think he probably knows very well what he is talking about. Also, going for the 1st 1000km at 60 km/hr doesn't seem to quite make sense to me.

Comments, anyone?

Changed my engine oil today after about 30 km of hard running-in. According to the manual, the first oil change should be at 300 km. I do intend to change the oil again at 300 km so this oil change could have been unnecessary. If so, I would have wasted $10.70 -- a small price to pay actually, in following the advice of MotoMan.

Wanted to change the oil filter too, but was told that my model has no oil filter. I assumed that this is correct, but when I checked the manual, the oil filter is listed! Too lazy to go back -- will replace at 300 km. But I wonder why they think that the bike has no oil filter....

Hi guys, I just got a second hand GTS 200 last sat.

Still new to find out more how this machine operates.

-may I know will there be any signs or symtoms showing "Belt" is worn off and need to change?

-found out that future scoteering deals with GTS 200. Any other shops as well to intro?

-can we rely on the engine oil indicator(stated in the manual) to know when to change E.O?

Where is the indicator?

Appreciate if GTS 200 bros can share information with me(newbie) here!

Thank you!

You should probably download a copy of the user's manual at the Sym website, if you haven't done so already. Mah Pte Ltd services Sym bikes. Heard good things about Wonderful Motor's Botak too. Cheers.

While at Mah yesterday to change the engine oil, I took the opportunity of looking at the other Sym bikes. Am so glad I picked the Joyride 200i Evo because of the completely flat floor panel. I think this feature improves rider comfort tremendously and should be incorporated into more models.

Day 3 and all looks good. Nevertheless it has come to a point where I heave a sigh of relief when I reach my destination and home. Just simply lost confidence in this taiwanese scooter. Anyone interested in a 2 month old GTS, please pm me.

bro fjrider, i understand how u feel. previously i rode a 2nd hand x9...also had that feeling. always wonder when the bike will die. it did die on me while on the way to jb. so i had to push it in, top up petrol, n pushed it all the way back to spore. n after that, i was always scared when there's some unsual sounds coming fm the bike. one prob after another n finally i gave up n bought a brand new sym scoot. so far so gd. conclusion for me...the simpler the bike, the less problem it will give.

Yup, really pek cek! reason of buying a brand new bike is because I dun want to encounter these kind of problem but lan lan now. Anyway, is the GTS 200 a fully electronic bike with an ECU/ECM. Reason I'm asking this question is ... if its fully electronic then I am suspecting that the ECU is screwed-up and not telling the fuel pump to pump up the petrol.

Hello hello .... Nemesis where are you?

If I am not mistaken, the GTS 200 doesn't feature an electronic fuel injection system, unlike the Joyride 200i. Instead it has a carburetor to do the job. In that sense, no, it isn't electronic. Theoretically, efi is better, but practically, things could go very wrong if the electronics don't function properly.
