Just got back from a short holiday in Hanoi. Seems like almost everyone rides a bike there. There are many more bikes than cars or buses on the streets. The most popular brand for bikes is Honda. Very few Sym bikes around.

Traffic was insanely chaotic but amazingly there seems to be very few accidents. Everybody toots the horn as a means of asserting their right of way. Very noisy, but no one seems to get annoyed and it appears to be a system that works well for them.

Most people wear very flimsy but cute-looking helmets that cover the skull but not the ears. The cheapest costs less than US$5. Although it is apparently against the law, I also saw quite a few people riding without any headgear at all.

Almost no bike has a box installed at the back. Bikes sometimes carry two or even three passengers, including small children.

Their bike skills seem to be quite good. Some ride with one hand on the handlebar, and some ride while talking on their cellphones. Quite amazing.

Bro, how are you?

Just sharing here. Used to ride ta200 since Nov 2007-Nov 2011. 4 years. Bike is reliable. Maintenance wise I must agree is reasonable.

Just changed to GTS 200 last month.(less than 2 months).

Did one full servicing to ensure everything is fine. ;)

Am advised to change belt at 12-15k km. For me I dun usually ride at high speed. Most of the time is 80km/hr on highway. Cannot handle high speed since I started riding. Pm me for the price or servicing shop.

Sold my ta200 due to Coe ending soon in June 2012.

As for FC, I will highlight that Ta200 is more efficient. Gts 200 tank is around 12.5L or more. However, personally I think it's worth to change to this. Storage is big enough that I have not fully utilize yet.

Try not to get from shop, other than private. Was quoted double the price for a FZ plate!

Cheers!

hi guys, i have narrowed down my options to either SYM GTS200/200iEvo or Honda PCX due to COE ending soon, thus need your valuable inputs related to GTS. my ride will be for commuting between home and work and occasional weekend rides. currently on phantom TA200, which i diligently change EO monthly. throughout the years, i had changed the dead batts twice, apart from the tyres/chain - which i think is really-really low maintenance & high in reliability.

1) how is the reliability of GTS?

2) maintenance?

3) spare parts availability and cost?

4) any other negs experience that you had?

TIA!

in HCM alone, estimated to have 4mil bikes on the roads. most of the ppl in HCM has 2 bikes, with honda as their weekend rides (more expensive and luxury to them). i like their way of using horns, not like us here horning to 'scold' others on the road. also it is quite intimidating to cross the road seeing a steady stream of bikes coming to your path. but not to worry, they will 'siam' u!

Happy new year to all Sym riders, just got a new joyride 200i evo from heng motor this afternoon, first time riding a taiwanese scooter.......

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.

My odometer has now gone over the 1000 km reading.... but I have not gone for the 1000 km servicing. According to the manual, at 1000 km, the servicing merely consists of a few checks such as tyre pressure, battery.... As I had already changed my engine and transmission oils at 300km, thought I would wait a bit longer before sending the bike for the next service. Any comments on this?

Conventional breaking in of a new bike according to the manual may be redundant and may actually be harmful to the performance of the bike in the long run. Sounds unlikely but read what this man has to say about the subject, and you may well conclude that he is right.

Overexposure to the sun is not healthy in the long run. On the other hand, wearing a jacket or any additional clothing while riding on a sunny afternoon can feel very hot.

Came across a product called "Arm Covers" in Daiso (Plaza Singapura) yesterday and they are perfect for the purpose of shielding one's arms from the sun while riding in the daytime in short-sleeved apparel. They are made of light material and come in different designs. The cost is a measly $2!!

hmm...interesting,will probably try out his method cos been running in the usual method for all previous bikes.

btw how do we actually have access to the battery and spark plug? do i need to take out the seat and container under the seat?

ytd asked ban hon (amk), the otr is gts200 ($6.4k) & pcx ($7.0k). price does not incl box & other freebies. btw, anyone knows which shop does take cc for the bike, not instalment but full payment with cc? quite tempting to earn the cc points.

I am clueless about this cos I normally leave the servicing to the workshop guys. Maybe someone else could answer....

On the left side of the handlebar. I am ok with this and it doesn't obstruct any of the meters.

Arm socks or sleeves may not offer you adequate protection.

If you want a well ventilated mesh jacket, you may consider Komine JK-011 or JK-012. They have large mesh holes and come with elbow, shoulder and back protection. I recommend it cos I have used a number of jackets and these models are the coolest. Not too hot under the sun and has some sort of protection.

Sweat level also depends on the individual.

I googled Komine... and Motoworld came up. Saw the jacket... still looks rather warm to put on, on top of normal clothing. Will check it out anyway. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers!

I tried riding with the arm covers in the afternoon today. Must say they work very well to shield my arms from the sun. At the same time, because the cloth was made of very light material, it didn't feel hot at all. Will be buying more pairs cos they are such good value for money.

I was offered 2 chapalang helmets, bike cover, box and bracket. I rejected all the "freebies" and told them to give me their net price for the GTS 200.

These freebies comes as standard package. Other freebies will depends on the negotiation power with them :)
