Am really tempted to get Quadro 3D as my next scooter now over the Xciting after encountering today's incident.

@topgearalwaysrock

Yes, thank God you live to tell the tale.

Glad you're fine. Scoot can repair.

It's not you tire that's to blame , it's your understanding of your situation and your equippment.

Especially after a light rain, even the best of tire will skid if you use it wrongly. A manhole when wet will always be slippery when you go over it even when slow. After a heavy rain there will be less sand and oil floating on the surface of the road and thus will feel more secure than a light rain with sand and oil all coming to the suface. So knowledge and experience is very curcial in riding. Ha ha even I throw caution to the wind most of the times. Haiz......so it's still human error not equipment. Then again compromise in equipment quality also play a part. As in your case, you are using a good Metzeler feelfree tires, so cannot blame the tire :p

Haiz.

Having more wheels doesnt mean it will be safer n less chance to get into accident. If you lose ur confidence already, time to find it back with ur current ride. Not from another bike. The rider is the answer not the bike. if one is reckless, whatever cc he rides, its equally a deadly machine on the road.

Give you Quadro 4D also no point. You fail to understand the dynamics of a vehicle. Equipment have limit/limitation. Do you understand the limit of your equipment? I can tell you, even if you drive a car, it will still skid if you don't understand the limit of your tires.

Ha ha sorry to sound like I know something, just a thought only and sharing :p Cheers :D

Quadro 4D

Use to think that it's a great idea until my friend told me why not buy a car instead.

I think about it and it makes sense that it's more practical to buy a car. It took the fun out of a 2 wheel and besides it doesn't make the scoot safer.

It's a novelty in my opinion.

One piece of Falken tire cost about cheapest ~$80 Range about 40,000km normal usage.

Scooter tire >$80. The bigger and wider the the tires the more expensive. Range much shorter than car.

Come to think of it, would you ride a 4 wheel bicycle for safety?

3 wheel or 4 wheel scooter for novelty yes, for safety no.

Ha ha yes, let's have meetup for kopi. :thumb:

@BaMBiNo

Where you stay?

Thanks for all the replies. I must say that this Kymco riders forum is quite friendly :-)

In most other threads, I would have been slammed for starting an off-topic discussion on Kymco Like in a Downtown thread :-) Thanks for all the support bros!

Currently I ride a Honda TA200 (1.5 more year left for COE to expire) and this Kymco Like 200i is going to be my first scooter. I have been riding motorcycles all my life and I must admit that I don't know a lot about scooters... so I have to look to the experienced brothers on this forum for help and advice. Please bear with me if some of my posts sound a bit novice like!

About the Like 200i: So far I am enjoying my ride, it is not as powerful as the Phantom but definitely more fun to ride.

One question : is it normal for scooter rides to be a little more bumpier than motorcycles? I find that I need to go quite slow while riding over bumps with my scooter rather than when I ride my motorcycle.

As you know sometimes it's hard to express how one feels just by typing hence the smiley to express a clearer emotion. I think just take it as a pinch of salt, sometimes a harmless remark sounds differently on the keyboard. There are also trolls behind that screen ha ha. So take it easy ya.

Rode a few small scooters and once on a friend's phantom 200 for fun.

Yes the phantom is good over hump i guess due to the design. It's more forgiving, can just go across hump comfortably.

Scooter must be slow over hump espiacially with a pillion. I just went through the same hump every weekend with a pillion and strangly it hit the chassis with a loud "clang" i was like what happen??? Did they just raise the hump??? In fact i was going very slow as the traffic is jam.

Adjust the rear until it's firm enough for you. It maybe the max and in my case 1 step down from max. It's bumpier if set harder but better over hump. If set lower, less bumpy but bottom out over hump. Mine at first very bumpy but after 3000km seems like soft already, can hit the usual hump. Hope it's not leaky :p

Most scooter engine are at the rear and thus the way the spring cushion the shock are different. In phantom case the engine is in the middle so the weight are more distributed.

For rear engine when you go over the hump too fast, all the engine weight and wheels will be thrown upwards thus bottoming out the rear shocks. For phantom, only the weight of the wheels go upwards. Something like that. So yes scooter must go over hump slower. Especially bigger scoot, no? Cause mine still not big enough and i'm already going very slow. Going slow over hump is also good, Firstly the hump is there for a reason - to slow down for danger area and your shocks last longer too ha ha.

Well, thanks for the advice guys.

I've still got plenty to learn with my humble 3 months old 2B license.

That said, the FeelFree tires have worn considerably - I'd put it to my "reckless" and "speeding" riding style. Guess I'll have to go easy on the throttle now.

Wasn't speeding at all in the rain. In fact, was coming to a stop already during the small incident. The gap was wide enough to squeeze through too. But I don't know what actually happened. Would think the tires skidded a little, and it was there and then that I lost it.

Quadro 4D makes a bit of sense. Can mount kerb, grass patches, etc.... Come to a stop don't have to put me legs down. Yet, it's still narrow enough to squeeze between traffic.

It's been a good lesson and I'll learn from it.

Hmmmm....Your future as a rider is worrying. Anyway Just remenber once we go on the road, we are the weakest link. No matter what you ride, the regardless of the cc underneath u, the common objective is to reach ur destination in one piece. Keep the ego at bay.

Ride safe always

I know this is a Downtown thread but I need some help...

Riding a Kymco Super 8 125cc and I can't seem to set the clock.

Tried pressing the two buttons but nothing happens. Pressed one button also nothing.

Posted

And erm, was checking around the brake pads just now....

Can't seem to see it. Haha. Was super dirty as with the whole brake mount.

Can the brake pads really be seen on its own? Or is it hidden??

Wow! Cool Super 8 sport scooter.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/jeryll/Kymco.jpg

Saw the owner's manual.

http://www.kymcousa.com/owners/onroad/Super8.pdf

There's only Left and right button.

Left button is to toggle clock adjustment mode.

During adjustment mode, right button to adjust digits.

After done, press left button again to set.

How about press and hold the left button only. Se if it works.

There's a sure way to work though...call Motorsport, they'll be glad to help.67496717(MS Ubi)

Hope this help.

Use a bright torch light, sure can see ha ha.

Must view from the front of the caliper. Not from side, top or bottom.

I've put rust removal. Found it in a bucket in me house.

Could take away some rust.

It's a white paste like thing.

Hope it works!
