Bike riding itself is not a problem, the problem are the careless and irresponsible road user who create the problem, and if you happen to be nearby and had it for nothing...:faint: Learning to ride is to learn how to operate the machine safely on the road and also learn the rule of the road so that to be safe. The bottom line is, parent want children to be safe throughout their life, and not just happy, if they know that their children are happy but are in an unsafe environment, I don't think that's what they want.

In the way, you get to have a chance to learn lot more things that other never have a chance to learn and or experience. be glad that a person are healthy, than you will have chance to do anythings, just a matter of time to come.

i guess mine's considered supportive lah. they strongly disagree when i was 18. and finally when i was like 22/23, i brought up the issue again and they finally agreed.

while i was learning, they will always ask me when is my next lesson, when is tp etc....

now on the road, everytime go out they will just say "don't ride too fast" or "be careful".

Funny poll :)

When I turned 18 (long time ago), I asked my mom if I could take my riding license... She said: "If you pay for it, of course, go for it!"

Was so happy...

Then, I passed and asked my mom: "Can I get a bike?"... And she simply answered: "No freaking way!!!"

good thing is, now I live 10,000 km from her, I can ride what I want :cheeky:

The title of this thread struck a cord, allow me to share some thoughts.

I am currently in the process of getting my class 2B license. Prior to my dad finding out that I was learning to ride, I approached him for permission to purchase a car. He vehemently protested and disagreed to the idea. So much for that attempt. So I asked him if I could get a bike instead, his immediate response was, "No, do not ask for trouble, you will get yourself into trouble..."

I surmised that the 3 main things on his mind were, 1. Money Matters- How was i going to pay for the car/bike on my own? He did say buying it was one thing, maintaining and running it was another issue altogether. 2. Focus- I will be starting university soon and he did cite that having a machine such as a car/bike would be a huge distraction and would interfere with studies. 3. Safety- In my first year of driving, I've been pretty brutal and relentless with the way I drive, and with a bike, he foresees that the danger would exponentially increase.

Hence, i reluctantly canned the idea of getting a car on my own. And instead, devoted my efforts to buying a bike. After cajoling my mum for approval (which is half the battle won), doing research, asking questions and coming up with the perfect plan for equipment, gear... I presented it to my dad. And with the help of my mum, we went down to see the Daelim S3 on Sunday.

My dad took one look at the S3, and to my surprise, did not do his usual "No, No, No don't talk rubbish, don't ask me for this, don't get me involved" repertoire but instead suggested that i look at the B-Bone instead as it looked more and I quote "Cool and Hip."

In the end, he asked me about the Piaggio MP3 which in his mind, having one extra wheel, was in theory, safer and less likely to fall over, topple or become unstable. And now, he has said that he'd get me the Piaggio MP3 if i ensure that i purchase all the relevant safety gear and ride safe. I would have been really happy with the "OK" from him, but now, offering to buy the whole thing for my seems too good to be true. All in all, I am quite happy to arrive at this conclusion and will wait and see if things materialize.

Suffice to say, I couldn't have done it without my mum.

Wah lao you all so good sia. I got my bike with my NS money. My sister said that she will slash my tires. My brother said that he will not fund my death. My parents refuse to even lend me a single cent, thinking that i don't have money to buy a bike. They said no to bike, but truth be told, whether i have it or not, they couldn't care less.

Funny thing was, then i got my bike, my mother gave me her blessing but not money. The truth is, i would not have wanted it any other way. Parents' blessings are more important that money, both spiritually and mentally.

My dad got pissed when i got a bike lol. But end of the day, my dad and 4 of 5 of my siblings i pillion them go here and there. So much for slashing my tires and not wanting to fund my death.

True story bro.

PS: I was raised with the mindset that my parents cared for me, even though i would not be happy. So basically, if my safety was increased in return for my happiness, it was all worth it. A sad and live son is still better that a happy and dead son .

I got my bike just recently. Own money. Haha. Still got rejections all the way though. But just remember that you are responsible for your life's. you need to answer to your parents. So ride safe guys!

I really don't see why people are asking parents for something they want. By riding, you have to be much more responsible regarding; your life, your money. All along, was kinda raised in a way where "You want it, you earn it".

Went for license and gotten a bike with my own pockets.

If you need parents to even pay for installments etc, question is are you ready to ride a bike? How about your usual servicing and unforeseen breakdowns? Truth is, you can be independent. Get a stable income (part-time job?), get your own bike, take control of your own life.

I asked my parents if i can get a 2b licence when i was 18, my dad said yes and funded me. He own a ybr125 and a van, the ybr is just for fun, he only rides it to go to the library haha. After i passed, I became the ybr sub rider. im 19 right now. Just passed 4 mths ago. the bike become my daily transport now. My dad actually say its good that i ride a bike now because when i go ns i can ride to camp, will save a lot of time. My dad ride when he was young. Before he and my mom got married, their transport was a bike.

They paid for everything and didnt want me to pay anything. I did spend quite a bit on protective gears. My dad even share some of the bike knowledge with me, how to ride on public roads etc. I even meet this uncle at my block who shared some otr knowledge with me when me and my dad is changing the bike battery and the other things ( i forgot what he changed lol)

BTW i am not from a rich family, my mom is a hawker who earns enough to buy groceries in my home. my dad is a salesman, normal pay.
