All the way across the board with no limitation

Just got back from a trip to Genting Highland on the 17 years old CBR400rrK Hurricane with pillion. Travelling 160-170km/h constant on my meter. Ocassionally overtaking at above 180km/h clearing meters until the kilometer dot (abt 200km/h if you extrapolate). According to my friends riding blackbird and hayabusa. I am travelling at abt 5km/h lower than what was shown on my meter.

The bike is really strong for such an age. Set off at 2.45am. At first travelled only 120-130km/h on the way there from GP to Machap scare heat is a problem. Rested half hour. Then after that travelled faster as the heat is not a problem since the weather is cool at night and only reach 30-40%. Then travelled 140-150km/h from Machap to Pagoh and heat reach 40-50%. Rested for 15 min. Travel at 150-160 from Pagoh to Seremban then to Cheras with temp abt 60-70%. At cheras abt 6am rested 1 hour. On the way up the Genting, the bike is cool so can play the corners pushing it to redline. But the idling is not that stable anymore bcos the air is thinner up there and this is a caburettor bike not EFI bike. So have to adjust idling to higher a bit to maintain the idling. Reached Genting highland hotel at near 9am bcos stopped at mid mountain a few time to take photo and enjoy the scenery.

On the way back, travelled at 120km/h city ride traffic jam squeezing, bike is hot bcos its on a hot afternoon 3-4pm. Reached 80%...scary. Fan always turn on. Then stop at Seremban petrol kiosk for 15 min and set off immediately after a drink. Only stopped once at Pagoh for petrol, then all the way came back to JB and stopped at Perling for dinner abt 7pm. The average speed is 160-170km/h. And overtaking at even higher speed.

The conclusion is city travelling is a torture for such old sports bike, as old bike tends to build up heat faster and remove heat slower due to rusty radiator. But when used for touring, the heat is no longer a problem. With the high wind speed, the engine cools fast and runs well. After the trip, have a strange phenomenon that the bike cools better now. The temp gauge drop faster than before. Last time after a ride in traffic jam in the noon, the needle is always dropping slowly whenever there is a chance to speed up and cool the bike. Now the bike needle drops faster when out of traffic jam. Maybe the constant high speed travelling (high temp also) cleared all the rust inside the radiator.

For those riding Hurricane, maybe u can try to bring your bike up as well. At first I also dont have the confident, thats why travelled slowly at first to test water. After the trip back, I am quite confident that if your hurricane is well maintained and serviced regularly, such touring trip shouldnt be a problem.

Hi guys. Glad to know that ther are CBR 400 "personal thread". Currently waiting for my TP and I wanna get a CBR too when I pass. As usual, I have been "shopping around" and I found this bike. I was quoted below:

Machine Price - $ 4600/- nett

(FM Plate)

1) GST- Inclusive

2) I.U Unit - Inclusive

3) Roadtax - Inclusive of 6 months

4) COE - 07/2015

5) Insurance - $ 470 for 25 years ( Third Party )

6) Interest - 8 % per annum

7) Minimum downpayment - $ 1000 /-

8) Installment - max up to 36 months

9) Any other payments required - Documentation Fees $ 150 ( Applicable if under HP scheme )

Is this a good or reasonable deal? And what should I look out for/pay attention to should I decide to take the bike?

Any help by future CBR-ians will be fully appreciated.

dunno lehz... i oso hope to noe the reason behind it... but that day i personally saw the mechanic did the carb sycronisation tuning on my bike already... den after tuning when he blow my bike theres really quite an amount of white smoke... hahaa.... or maybe its due to the air intake open to big??

the shop did changed my gear 6 for me cos the teeth abit worn out already, but the main reason causing my gear problem was actually the gear fork... there are 3 forks, in which 1 of the fork was so badly scratched... :giddy:

u've got a cheap deal of your cbr leh. But got the 6th gear problem make u headache la. Well, everythings settle liao lo now... hehee

So, when u on the move already, still gives out white smoke? Surrounding temp cold? if the surrounding temp is normal n u on the move n your bike gives out white smoke (like 2 stroke bike) means something is wrong.

I personnally feel tat it isnt any big sh!t. Cos black smoke then its big sh!t.

Correct me if im wrong.

err..

i tot if come out white smoke is bad??

white smoke means burning of engine oil.. maybe gasket spoilt or even piston rings..

black smoke is juz too much carbon.. need to go for carb setting/synco..
