hmmz, actually i overhual my engine like last yr as u had said, i wanted to keep this bike for a long term. I did a top and bottom overhual, replaces all my pistons and piston rings and check my gears at the bottom engine. And i have owned this bike for more den 3yrs. Regarding the overflowing of coolent from the resevior, i understand wat u all mean. I did not over pour the coolent. But the interesting is by right, according to a reliable source, hot coolent from the radiator will pump the radiator cap open and the hot coolent will flow down to the resevior causing a vaccum in the radiator. In return, when the engine cools down, the vaccum will suck the coolent back from the resevoir to the radiator and fill it up again. Sound logical to me.

 

However, now the situation i am facing is, whenever the coolent inside the radiator heat up and move to the radiator, aft the engine cools down, my radiator become half filled. And thus causing my thermostat attach to the radiator to give a super high temp reading. It is reasonable as due to the lack of coolent in the radiator. I was thinking, if it was the water jacket in the engine tt is faulty, are u referring to the cam gasket? And if u r referring to the cam gasket, den by right i overhual the engine last yr, the gasket shldn't haf got any prob unless the mechanic tt does my bike did something wrong when installing the gasket, right.

Anyone know if install new light bulbs will eat more battery than the normal ones ? Or is it the same?

 

MW selling Philips white bulb, thinking of instaling as both of my bulbs have blown out, but wondering if will have any side affects as CBR is an old bike, as alot of people had electrical/battery probs.

there are few ways to check whether the cam gasket is gone..

1. check for any engine oil leak at the engine area.. look oily, dirty, attract sand

2. check the colour of the engine oil.. the scooping action in the engine area will mix the coolant that leak into the engine oil pan and turn whitish..

3. white exhaust smoke during dry weather will indicate that too.. but damage piston ring will oso give such sign. therefore is not a very gd indicator

 

unless the mech did not place the gasket internally properly,

i think u better check the cap.. make sure the rubber at the cap sit nicely in the opening.. make sure the rubber is not expanded.. should flush nicely wif the metal part behind the rubber..

CBR oem bulb is 35/60w..

therefore the wire harness, the headlight assembly and light switch if it is N model and below is designed for these spec.. if u got a white light bulb wif similar spec, u are able to use..

but currently in the mkt, the bulbs are 55/60w which is higher than OEM ones.. if u wanna use that, is advisable to use a separate harness for these light bulbs..

the rubber at the cap sit nicely in the opening. There is no EO leak at the engine layer. For the EO change and check whether is there any whitish colour, i got no chance to do it. But for the past few EO change, nvr really see the whitish substance. And this heating prob has been wif mi for a while. First diagnose by my mech is my radiator spoilt, but who knows i change a new one and the prob still persist. So now my mech shut up alrdy. And he is trying to identify my heating prob. Haiz.

Ah meng from soon hin explained this to me and virus the other day.. den he also sae if ur coolant is half empty, there may be leakage.. not sure if this info helps..

Hmmz, i understand what u mean. Actually from my knowledge, most old bikes will have the water stopper or water jacket remove. Reason being the bike will heat up slower as the coolent in your bike will keep circulating. Whereas if the water stopper is still there, the stopper will open up once the temp inside ur engine heat up and allow cold coolent from the radiator to flow into the engine to cool the engine down and the hot coolent will flow back to the radiator to be cooled. In simple term, think the water stopper like the fan at your radiator, the fan will on once the water in the radiator heat up.

 

Anyway, i juz gotten my bike back today finally. Now i am still testing the temp of my bike. See whether will it still heat up anot. According to my mech, he changed the cam gasket for me. So i think my assumption of the cam gasket being blocked shld be correct if now my bike doesn't heat up anymore. to myself.

 

Anyway thanks for everyone tt gave me their valuable experience regarding my bike prob. Although i rode my bike for 3yr plus, but i am still learning new things abt this bike everyday. Cheers everyone, got time let's come out and chill and discuss more abt our bikes.

You can try race werks at bt merah. They told mi they charge $280 for the whole wiring for RVF400. Mayb it is ard the same price for CBR?
