Just a word of caution, do not update via apple software, or chances are you will break the installation, and also rem to backup your extentions. I dunno how many times I had to re-install osx86. :cheeky:

Welcome to the world of hackintosh, lwfc!! :D

A word...or rather...several words to note:

1. Some of the "OS x86" guides online tell you how to take a legit copy of Mac OS X operating system disc and tweak it so that it can then be use to install Mac OS X onto a "normal PC"

2. Some are copies of Mac OS X that people have bootlegged, already tweaked, and are making its rounds all over the internet. Yep, 'pirated' is the word to use in this case.

3. See kaznad's post.

btw, what are the extensions for? not very used to apple terms.

Extensions on a Mac = startup programs/hardware drivers on a PC

They're mostly .kext files and live on your Mac inside this location

/System/Library/Extensions/

You can't see this folder unless you've got Superuser (not Administrator) rights. Users typically use Terminal to access this folder location.

4. After the install process, it can sometimes be a pain in the arse. Some of your hardware and wireless network drivers may not work. Your display may be shrunk to 1280 x 1024 resolution because Mac OS X's built-in drivers aren't made for your video card. People usually search for hacked/patched drivers online just to get their equipment to work under this hack-intosh environment.

EDIT: Chunk of post removed in respect of Mac OS X EULA.

x86?? Isnt osx 64bit?? btw, since hypertreading intel cpus support 64 bit instructions.

So far, what I see is that Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and lower support x86 (32bit) and x64 (64bit) machines.

The upcoming Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) has extensive 64-bit support; not too sure whether 32bit systems (or the "osx86" methods can support it or not)

Nope, since hyperthreading pc have 64bit instructions with IA64 for intel and AMD x64 of cos for AMD.

I guess if you are using Intel processors it "should" be alright there are many experts out there just need to have them figure it out.
