now here is the delicate part. use a small flat screw driver to slowly push the pulley out against the pulley cover, after you have dislodge it a bit, hold the valve or pulley cover and pull, the pulley will be pulled out, together with the valve cover.

now you see the pulley hanging there. jus leave it hanging. now pull out the CTS valve! yes, you may experience difficulty if the carbon has built up quite a bit. no worries, pull at it again and again. it will come out. the piece of green thing is the valve gasket. buy at minvera for $4. change if you find the gasket is busted

Posted

now you will see your dirty valve. yes very dirty! clean it with sand paper and WD40 or kerosene. i use kerosene. much faster. clean away the exterior of all carbon. use a small rod to cover the sand paper and clean the inbetween areas.

Posted

ta la! clean valve! now reverse all step and put back the valves. dun over tighten any screw. tighten, then another 1/4 turn and you should be fine. and remember to cover the valve with a bit of 2T before inserting it back.

and check the valve is working by switching the ignition key on and off to hear the opening and closing sound. and look at the pulley to see that ti is moving.

now you can enjoy another 3000-5000km of valve opening madness before you clean it again. but i clean it every month because i'm a crazy, fussy owner.:help:

nice work there!

shld be going soon to fix my set of problems..

in the meanwhile..

here are some other problems i have.

1) our lights have positional light, headlight and high beam.

i find my positional light very weak.. is that the same for all planets ard? if not.. where can i get my replacement?

2) exhaust seems to have too much carbon.. how to clean it? will attach a pic soon,

would it be just inserting a super bent hanger bent till straight and shaft it in and scrape scrape scape till...... i hapi??.. then start end and blow them ouT?? or take out the whole exhaust and ... pour petrol and disolve all the carbon ??

will post those pic when i get my cam back

hey, for 5w, how bright can it be? it's suppose to be that 'bright' :sorry:

normal replacement can be had at SIM LIM tower. cos if you take out the bulb, you will find that it has 2 little plugs sticking out. it's for you to lock the bulb in place to the holder. when you take it out, you will know what i mean. buy a few and keep next time you go there. 12v5w. dun buy the wrong one! :D

this exhaust carbon thingy. i have absolutely no idea what is the best way. cos i have done not it before. my ah beng method-go to 2nd link and whack the engine at 6th gear, 160km/h till you reach the prata shop!

:D

ok, methods include, pouring caustic soda into the pipe, which is supposed to dissolve the carbon a bit. same thing used to clear sewerage pipes

remove the end can, pour some petrol into the end can. light a fire and watch a mini explosion. i'm not kidding. but please do it in an isolate, open area. :goodluck:

as you can see, the prescribed methods were neither safe to perform nor fool-proof way to clear the carbon. so i stuck to the 2nd link method.

i'll ask my mech next time i visit him.

ooo.... done that already.. very fun! kekek..

make sure u learn and really really max out your skills in turning and skidding (meaning learn to control a skidding bike with rear locking wheel ... in wet and dry weather..) it will benifit u in experience and well as having some knowhow if it.

i think i fell from bike once while doing it... keke. but as least u get the exp of inducing it in a controlled manner without trying on the planet first.. kekek

have fun ! :bouncefire:

ok, fellow planteers, i realised the task of DIY on your valves may be a bit on the tough side for newbies. so next up would be a series of simple DIY which would include chain adjustment, coolant change, headlights/positional lights change etc. Please feel free to request any other sorts of DIY and i will get the pics up when i'm free.

thanks brudder. in my personal opinion, true ownership of a vehicle of passion, aka motorcycle, should include some extend of DIY.

and great looking monster! my fav colour too. Rosso. in fact, all this DIY experience that i am gathering from a simple 2-stroke is to let me be able to hands on on my dream bike. ducati monster. :cheeky:

but for now, i'm enjoying my planet to the max. italian machines just stir the emotions up.

source around. price range from bike shops and private owners can be huge. go to yahoo classifieds to have a feel of what the market price is. my opinion is look around for some time for a good buy and not buy on impulse. i got my bike 3 months after my TP.

bring a friend who knows something about bikes to view it with you. search the threads to find out how to look out for faults.

here's a general guide. read thru eh!

Thanks for the info guys, but i have another question. Are spare parts for the planet hard to come by?

parts are not hard to come by. but they will be relatively more expensive compared to japanese bikes.

you can get them at quite a few places. because MITO and planets share certain parts, so shops servicing mitos will almost certaintly have planet parts.

i get parts from Minerva. Excel cycle has them too. other places that i know of but have not visited them before are 1st motor, superbike center and a place in JB which i forgot the name.

contrary to popular local myths (aka ah beng riders), you do not have to wait 'long long' for the spare parts to ship from italy to singapore.

your mech can do it for you for $2 i think. DIY is free and easy. but you will need a good box wrench (size25) to prevent you from rounding the nut. loosen the big nut on the right hand side of the bike, just underneath the exhaust.

on both sides of the swingarm, you will see a locking nut, one one each side. loosen both sides. use an allen key to undo the screws. you will see that the chain will start to move. there are markers on the swing arm. just make sure both sides are on the same markers. tighten the locking nut, then tighten the big nut that locks the chain.

i think you will not understand what i have said, without any pics. go to http://www.cagivaproject.com to download the mito manual. very clear illustrations there.

or you can ride to your mech everytime your chain become loose and spend 2 bucks. your pick. :goodluck:

ok, truth be told, my bike has never been into Minerva ever since i took it over from the previous owner. the previous owner regularly service his bike there. he would take the bike there, leave it for 1-2 days and pay and leave.

the bike is supposedly check throughly for faults and parts that needs to be changed are, well, changed. the bill comes up to $200 plus. inclusive of workmanship which comes up to a charge of $80-90 the last time i looked at his bill.

for me, i find the charges on the high side, plus i dun see the mech working on my bike cos i have to leave the bike there. i dun like the idea of leaving my bike, come back the next day, pay and leave. i like to see what the mech does. one for seeing his skill level, secondly to learn. i get none when i send my bike there.

but from my ducati and planet friends, i gather eugene is a really good mech, especially when it comes to ducati. Plus i turn to the mech only when i really have no confidence of DIY or when i lack certain specific tools to work on the bike. The mech (xiao boon) at excel does my bike well, explains to me what he is doing when i ask him, minus the workmanship charges. He was recommended to me by I3stat, an ex-planet owner and sort of my mentor when it comes to DIY. :cheeky:

chain adjustment for planet

tools needed

1) size 25 box wrench

2) size 12 spanner

3) allen keys, 5mm

the pic shows a box wrench, size 25 on the axle nut. loosen the nut. please do not use an adjustable wrench! rounding the nut isn't fun.
