How long will it take for insurance to finalise the cost of the repairs ??? Now need to find a reliable and portable extinguisher in the market for my ride.

Maybe the bike manufacturers should look at building one into the bike. In an emergency, press the extinguisher button and it will release some extinguisher chemical to manage the crisis :thumb:

All STX gurus,

Wanna get new STX any advise which shop I should get it from? Which shop has better mechanic dealing with repairs and servicing? Any idea whats the price, interest rate and max years of instalment? Any particular thing abt STX that I should be careful of? Many thanks......

Hi

Quite a bit has been written on forum, but you need to do some googling to get more info. One site that is good is http://www.st-owners.com that has quite comprehensive info

STX has some issues ie tail weaving if you like to go >180km/hr, especially if you have a top box. It is one of the heaviest bike but is more reliable tourer. Unless you want to consider another option of FJR1300

Anyway, buying new is a little expensive with the high exchange rate. Safest to me is Looi motors. Alternatively you can consider second hand as there are 2 with very low mileage in the market. 1 is 08 and another 06. They are asking about 23k. New i believe is about 28k to 32k. If you buy parallel imported one, you will likely need to go back to the shop to service or find a reliable one that does STX. If you buy from a shop that takes supplies from Boon Siew, you can go back to Boon Siew to service, etc, etc

Hope this provides some help

Check the thermostat body. Might be leaking from there.

Both your headlights? If can remove bulb, look at the filament maybe broken already. Most likely, wear and tear.Just change the bulb if faulty.

Did I calculate OTR price correctly? If I am correct then why are used bikes sold at such high prices by owners....don't make sense to me? Especially when they have used up the best years of the bike???

New

Machine price - $23500 (quoted)

COE - $1300 (bid myself)

Total - $24800

Insurance - $1200

Rd Tax - $600

OTR - $26600

Depreciation p/yr - $2480

Used

4 yrs old STX - $17000 (owner's request)

Transfer fee - $300 plus

Depreciation p/yr abt - $2800 plus

If I am wrong, can the gurus advised cos I am definitely getting a STX, its only a matter or new or used....

Hi, Joseph. A brand new STX is about 30-32 grand-ish all in. This is due to the Yen appreciation. Just so you know.

and another portion that we usually miss out... is the 7% GST.

Price is very much subjective with every owner. Sellers want to sell high, buyers want to buy low... with exception that if you LOVE a particular one, you are willing to fork out money over an above the market rate in acquring it. Depreciation of bikes is not evenly spread over the 10 years and you can use it as a guage ...

If a price is too low, we also have to be wary. Cos there may be high repair cost that you are not aware of : p

Hope this 2 cents input helps as well

Happy hunting

Thanks for the inputs. So when I was quoted $23500/= for the machine price, its a very far cry from the exact one (excluding Insurance & raod tax)??

Speaking of high speed weave...check this vid out, found it out of curiosity when looking up for stx info

STX車身晃動(2) (ST1300 High Speed Weave)

So need to set up the bike to fit your ride style and carry load. STX is a heavy bike and full fairing so having the right screen levels, your weight, rear damper set right and having the right box will prevent it. It is just the draft that created the possible of weave.

There are others that dont experience the weave at >180, especially even with a pillion. So forum accredited the weave to be either tire wear and others, ie UK police bikes, had equipments that did not balance with the bike : )

Hope this helps cos I am extremely happy with mine STX, despite being the "oldest" and the first batch of STXs into Singapore
