Do check the wheel bearings as well. If the bike was on the road for a long time just replace the bearings especially if a strange "rumbling" sound only comes when cornering. They're cheap to replace.

 

To try and isolate the issue I tried spraying a sticky chain lube into the bearings and wow, the sound disappeared for a while, somehow. Turns out one of my wheel bearings had worn out (see la, play corner too much lah!)

 

Anyways, just bring to mech for a checkup, can't hurt.

To check for worn wheel bearing, lift off the front wheel and shake it while locking the handle. If there is a free-play (loose), it's time to change the bearings.
