should i report accident to my insurance company?

Hi guys,

 

I just got into an accident a few hours back where the car behind me hit the back of my bike while we are stopped at the traffic junction. At first he asked me what's the problem , I told him he hit my bike. He asked me to call the police.. as I was trying to call, he suddenly asked how much compensation I want. After looking at the damage, I asked for $100. He gave me the money but then started cursing and threatening me. That he will f*ck me up tom. blah blah blah. Now my question is should I report the accident to my insurance company tom in case he files a claim against me? considering he has threaten me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

There is no point reporting to your insurer because the matter is considered privately settled as you have already received compensation on mutual agreement.

 

You can make a police report against him for threatening but don't expect any action to be taken against him. However, putting that on record would be to your advantage should he carries out his threat subsequently. If you have his contact, let him know, by call or sms, that you have make a police report against him for threatening, and give him the Police Report Number for his reference.

 

That's basic courtesy for being uncivilized.

It would be really stupid for him to do that because there is almost no contest for rear ending another vehicle.

You go tell the police that you want to put in on record regardless they want to proceed for further actions. You make it known to them that you may want to file a Magistrate complaint later.

 

You need a copy of the Police Report when filing for a Magistrate Complaint.

regardless of whether privately settled or not, report all accidents to IDAC within 24hrs. If the fella decides to file a claim against you, and you have not filed a report, then you *may* be at a disadvantage.

 

No need to state you wanna claim. There's a box on the form that allows you to check *not making claims*. IDAC is just a data collection centre for accident information.

 

If you or the other party make a claim, then your insurance company will go to IDAC to get the reports.

Yah lor. And it's not like i asked for too much compensation. And it's odd he threatened me harm for the next day. We could've slugged it out right there if he wanted to. I'm guessing he had a few drinks

That's why i think he may have had a few drinks. Both of already stopped for a while. Then he just suddenly crashed into my bike
