Hi guys

please be patient and try to answer noobie questions that I am about to post or direct me to the links if these have been answered before... I should mention that I've never bought 2nd hand bikes before and I've never bought from a private seller either all my bikes have been bought new from shops and then sold to shops...

1.) When a seller says COE not renewable does it mean I am technically buying a house decoration? What is the max number of years that a bike's COE can be renewed for or is there such a thing as minimum vs maximum number of years until a bike really under law is forced to be scrapped?

2.) When I buy from a private seller how does the process go? Insurance, Transfer fees and roadtax? How to ensure that the bike is legally mine by the time I pay the seller? Are we supposed to go to LTA together? I really dont know how this works and dont want to get swindled...

3.) When an engine is overhauled technically what does that mean? Is it taken apart and cleaned thoroughly ONLY or is it taken apart and cleaned and parts which are worn out are REPLACED? How much longer would this engine be functional after an overhaul? How much does an average overhaul cost?

4.) Are cosmetic customizations for the aesthetic look of the bike for example, tank, handlebars generally allowed as compared to customizations to alter performance e.g. exhaust?

Thanks in advance for all who might enlighten me or point me in the right direction...

--> Check the bike. If left 7 years, and not renewable, means after 7 years must scrap.

--> just go lta and transfer of ownership. and the bike is fully yours legally. get insurance and u can ride already. i think shld go together, to sign paper work.

--> if engine overhauled, means they take out the engine and dismantle the worn out parts and replaced w a new ones. in other words, ure getting a "brand new" engine. hw long can it last is very subjective.

4.) Are cosmetic customizations for the aesthetic look of the bike for example, tank, handlebars generally allowed as compared to customizations to alter performance e.g. exhaust?

--> cosmetic customization is allowed. if u do it legally. just check with lta, and u can have the list. do some google work.

Thanks man... hmmm pretty sad lah so there is definitely no way a bike's COE can be renewed once it hits its expiry date? this means there will never be any vintage bikes around in Singapore soon...

How to check when the bike's COE hits expiry? Say a seller says his bike's COE can be renewed for another 10 years when actually it cannot...

wrong, coe before expiry can be renewed. however if u renew earlier, the remaining years are not carried forward.

if however the renew is for 5yr, it's non-renewable, thus after coe expired, technically a house decoration. thus in TS's case.

•The 5-year COE is non-renewable, which means you must de-register the vehicle upon the expiry of the 5-year COE.

r there illegal cosmetic customization?

How to check when the bike's COE hits expiry?

http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onemotoring/en/lta_e_services/e-transactions/renew_coe.html

u'll need the owner's ic num.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?
