Hi bros,

I just got my x8 last weekend. Enjoying every moment on the road, just that squeezing past between the cars is a little difficult.

Anyway, any kind soul can shared wat is the regular maintainence for x8?

Heard about the coming Beehoon session at commonwealth? Is it over already?

Cheers!

I find it difficult to squeeze also, but I have seen another X8 out-squeeze a JB kup kia on PIE. So I think it's a matter of getting used to your X8 and your confidence level.

Bee Hoon session? Over liao lor. We can always organise another outing. Just let bro Brownkai knows, he will settle the rest. Haha.

Hi brother!yo!

Really depends on the age, mileage and condition of you X8. If you still have the original manual that comes with the scooter, there's a section on the time between maintenance explained very clearly. Otherwise you can go and buy books on scooter maintenance and educate yourself. Some simple maintenance you can do is to top up the Engine oil, Battery water and Coolant. When my X8 is very new, I check the oil like every 2 weeks, now it went down to once every 2 months! You can also buy those spark plug extraction tool to check your spark plug for deterioration, though I don't recommend doing that too often. I removed my 3 month old spark plug and scraped away the carbon deposits, be careful not to bend the spark plug electrode when doing so. Removing the spark plug can be a tricky affair and this is not taught in the manual. Also when you screw it back, make sure you align it properly and don't damage the screw thread, it must also be screwed in very tight otherwise you will lose compression and have less power. If you use your X8 everyday, I think sending it to the shop every 3 months for regular maintenance should be fine. Since a good spark plug is about $12, changing it every maintenance is a good idea.

If you park your X8 in the open like I did, get a big silver bike rain/sun hood to cover you X8. This will protect the plastics from sun damage and reduce rust on your screws. Rust cannot be prevented but it can be delayed. I use singer oil to lubricate the shocks absorbers and chain oil (with some exotic Molybdenum element) to oil the wheel axles. Never spray oil on the disc brakes! I spray WD40 on hard to reach brake levers and even the light switches. WD40 will drive out most moisture.

Get a can of Compressed Air and use that to spray dirt and sand away from your engine block ( accessible by removing the plastic hatch under your cushion seat). Grab the throttle and roll it back and forth to see the wire attached to the carburettor spring roll back and forth. Use a brush or compressed air to spray clean the spring and then sprays some oil over the spring, this will prevent the spring from getting "gunky" and your throttle may get very sluggish and don't spring back. This happens during wet weather. Wash your bike with water and detergent once a month if possible.

Get a bottle of PolyGlaze from Selleys to protect all the black plastic and vinyl surfaces. The X8 body can be cleaned easily by using a chamois cloth and some light detergent. Get a trash bag to cover your seat if you have to park your X8 in heavy rains. The trash bag can also protect your seats if the neighbourhood cat decides to rest or claw on your cushion. I realized the foam in the seats is notorious for absorbing water after rain, the water will go under your seat and into the seat compartment and start to rust the steel components. Keep a small spray bottle filled with Windex soap solution to clean your mirrors and your body work, of course keep a small piece of chamois cloth handy.

Hope this is useful! This is more or less my own maintenance regime for my X8.

very detailed.... good for u :p

jus few points

good spark plug cost more than 12 but can last very long.... try use denso irdium... no need to check that often on your spark plug..... just change together every belt change.... every 3 months regular maintainence not that good too....

recommend for every 3000-5000km ;- EO change and every alternate EO change include the change of oil filter..... flush coolant system every 6 months...... check your tyre thread regularly for wear and tear..... last but not least check battery water level bi-monthly.....

that's abt it....

Heh heh, yeah, maybe 3 months per shop maintenance may be a bit aggressive, but again really depends on how you use your X8. If drive a lot on a daily basis, on long distances in harsh condtions, then you should watch your X8 a little more closely. A properly maintained vehicle can save your life, not to mention money too! :p

Recently, I am beginning to hear very harsh grinding sounds coming out from my clutch during gradual throttle up acceleration, though it's more intermittent than constant. I think my clutch is slipping. Anyone here used 3rd party clutches before? Are they really as good as they are made out to be?

:p yup....do not just look at your 3mthly but a more accurate way would be depending on distance travelled..... of cos if u don't ride daily, then a 3 mthly maintainence would be ok....

as for your clutch slip, i personally won't recommend after market stuff as we use it for a daily use and not for racing...... a method i reccommend for reduce the slip is throttle more instead of little/.... after a few months, i no longer had the slip!!....:p

no worries..... yup think your lao bei enjoying his X8 too.... the main diff btn ta200 and X8 is its turning radius and maintainance cost.....

hmmm.... fully servicing meaning?? belt change??

recommended full servicing - Original belt,u-shoe,rollers

- EO

- oil filter

- clean air filter

- flush coolant system

- change spark plug

- check front and rear brake pads..(change if need to)

- check battery condition.

All items done up less last 2 - a rough est is 2 hnd plus - 3 hnd.

of cos some shops offer cheaper ... all these depend on type of belt used, rollers and u-shoes.... also depends on EO used.........

Thanks for all your advice!

The previous owner maintain it pretty well. It's a FZ plater. My riding habit is very slow and relax (As I used to ride Vespa), so hope it wont give me too many prob.

Anyway, I will take note and do the neccessary maintainence.

Anyway, r the x8ers having any kopitiam session? sure love to see fellow scooter lover for chat.

Cheers!
