Hey guys...have any of you have switch from carb to FI?

any feedbacks?

and it was said that the Carb dry weight is 220kg while the FI is 235kg....15kg difference?

It has been a crazy weeks for me deciding...:dozed:

Aiyo .... 15kg different is nothing for u.......anyway who care abt the weight...Fuji seating on his carb is heavier than Dok's FI.......End of the day, his bike can deliver the same power as Dok's FI model...the only set back is he cannot play with another gear....how i wish the carb model can modify to 6th gear.

Lastly , the spare part for FI is almost double the price of carb model eg...fuel pump cost ard $300 and $65 for the carb model (using same fuel pump as african twin)....there's is pro & cons btw this 2 bikes....so good luck for your shopping again...errr...i thot u going to secure the good deal with the angmo..

heyya!

i'm thinking of getting a vara 125 to kickstart my touring dreams. currently playing dirt on a ktm200, but i cant ride that beast on long trips. anyone here riding the 125, or is the vara 1000 way more popular?

Hi cheriemrrr,

Maybe you can consider the Derbi Adventure 125.. its really worth a look.

Atwin>> cheriemrrr is a She? now the forum nick all very misleading leh. As for lady vara rider, there used to be this Auntie Eagle on a XLV1000. Met up with her a couple of times. Hard core tourer.

Tmr sounds good for a meet up.

Cheriemrrr>> keep the money and ride your current bike, the 125 is too over priced. No point pay so much for a 2B when you still got 2 more class to upgrade. Unless you planning to keep for 5 yrs and above and ride it still when you got ur 2A.

AJ>> A carb is still a Carb bike, so in terms of fixing it up in the 3rd world country should u be riding it RTW, not so much headache. The F1 uses electronic ,sensor to time the injection of fuel, more electronic higher chance to fry. The problem is much harder to diagnose in the wild. But having said so, most carb models are in the region of grand daddy in bike age. Most carbs models should have high mileage as previous owner riding it up north and back a few times is common. So if you were to be hunting for a carb model, make sure its well taken with TLC by the owner. So even odo got > 100k Km also not a big problem.

yup....contemplating...deposit 200bux liao...but somehow, another fellow selling the FI model trying to give some best options for me...although it would cost almost double than the carb model i am seeing....you know i have much greater appeal on the FI...dammit...why or why...the headfairing is looking like FI-ona Xia...the 15kg extra is a strange bit....i thought the FI looks more sleek than the carb, which 1st glance you would thought the FI is lighter...

And if i were to buy the FI,basically it's just ride and go...i notice new Tourance set have been fitted, wherelse, the downside of the Carb vara i am dealing, the rear tyre is Dunlop battlax sia, worst, front tyre if i am not wrong, looks like those you see on Steed...the rest of the bike i can still live with it..

my AT deal will only finally settle by tomoro...phew...almost 1 month for the buyer to be able to secure the loan...

you have a point...but looking at the situation i am in right now and at presant after already sold my body and soul to wife,RTW is miracle, and up North is nowhere near for now...so it's just for tangkap hansem ride and enjoy my usual weekend stuffs getting dirty...

well, the bestest thing about the carb vara i am dealing, milege is 75k on the clock, the bike looks like it's only been ridden at the basement carpark...

oh,here's the bike...well,yeah...that's the owner right ther...

thanks AJ for the links :) (im actually the viewer thats meeting nineh tmr night. his friends sound like they would kill me if i bought his bike...)

stantheman> i've only got 2b at the moment, taking 2a soon. will have to wait more than a year more to ride a 1000cc! another problem - im a skinny girl, already worried about handling the vara 125. yeah, i heard that the 125 is quite underpowered... but i love the dakar shape and size.

my alternatives for touring are to wait abit and get a drz400 or dr650.

does anyone know if the vara125 faces problems of needing frequent overhauling (because the small engine has to REALLY work overtime on all those long touring trips)?

thanks lots for the advice everyone :)

At the price that vara is selling, why dun you consider this??

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249204

08 bike selling @ 8.5kneg.... Btw I just help my friend sold his 02 vara125 for 3.6k last mth. the bike was bought at 3.8k a year ago from shop.

Tink the vara 125 is almost problem freem easy to maintain and durable.

Hi bro AJ, just in case your options are still open regarding a carb model. I am letting mine go for 7k but the upside of it is that almost ALL the parts have been replaced and you truly will not have to worry about anything breaking down bro. Everything in the top end of the engine has been replaced and even the clutch plates and clutch housing...The bike is sweet except for a blown right headlight bulb which i will fix..

Just incase you are thinking of touring on it, i even have pannier racks and a similar topcase as the ang mo. The crash bar that he is using is the notorious crashbar from hepco and becker that have broken not only one but two of our brothers legs and even though i have a lot more mileage (120k on the clock), the best part is that all the parts were replaced at 112k bro and the bike is sweet as honey bro. Its only been ridden for 8k kms since we did our hatyai trip. Even then, when we came back from hatyai, i again replaced the oil and plugs.

Dun wanna confuse you bro, but think about it, my coe is till 2019 and bikes got all parts replaced, all for just a mere 7k???? Thats a steal man, You ca ride it for a few years and still fetch a good price on it bro... Think it thru bro??? Buy from bro like me, you get all the facts and history of the bike sorted out. Even down to my rear brake disc is new, with new pads and i got good rubber on the wheels. Think it thru good and proper lah bro. I rather sell to a bro also.

The bike is not only in good shape but looks the works too, the paint has been carefully cared for, the bike is washed every week by my hands even if i dun ride it....there is scottoiler taking care of the chain and a few necessary accesories i have put together over the years. Let me know bro. Zac aka varadero8212 at 94874311.

thanks everyone :)

i actually had my eye on nineh's vara125. but my ktm is just due for a costly full overhaul, so gonna take more time to research and also get my 2A.

agree that the 125's quite underpowered and may not be for keeps (for me). same goes for the derbi terra, except that the vara looks way sexier! i just really really love the dakar bikes.

am now setting my sights on transalp 400 (ancient bike though), or a xr400 with safari tank. with my puny strength, dont think can handle class 2 tourers, although am terribly tempted by tdm900.

will prob bump by one of your meetups soon to hear touring stories from the gurus themselves!

Really depends on the demand man. Remember i posted my friends vara125 nov last year 3.8k. during that time no much ppl shown interest in it. Posted again last mth, responds was very good. someppl even say the bike was cheap. compare to some others with more accesories selling at 6-7k for a 02 varadero125. basket with the price can buy a vara 1k already...
