Hi Varadero owners, I am a 1-month old Varadero XL1000V1 owner. I apologise for the intrusion but I hope you all can give me advice on this strange phenomenon I noticed whenever i warmed up my bike After about 2 minutes, there will be a short burst of "Psst" sound from the bottom of the engine and followed by another just after 5 seconds. I dont know if the sound is produced while riding but so far when i tried to listen while waiting for the traffic light or when I reached my destination, i dont hear it anymore

 

Just wondering if the phenomenon is a characteristic of the bike? When i explained to my mechanic over the phone, he said it could be due to the petrol tank breather tube being blocked and suggested i open and close the tank cap before i start the engine. I tried, but the sound was still there

try to listen properly...is the sound that u mention a "tick...tick...tick" sound????? if it is....then its coming from yr fuel pump....if is "psst..." sound....then im not sure....

 

come dwn to tommorow meetup at a 24hr roti prata shop along serangoon rd(leading towards Big Mah motor b4 bendemeer pri sch) 830pm..a lot of guys or I will try to catch yr problem...

Keihin>>Fuel pump gonna fried is not known by sound. Those with this problem would know, the bike will die on u. Its like even if u gas the bike , the bike's rpm cant go up... just like no more fuel is supply into the engine.

 

If this happens and the bike dies off, try not to start it . Patience is the key word, wait for 10-15 mins, then try again. If still cannot ,wait & try again.

If u start the bike non stop , u would fried the starter. More $ spent for replacement liao.

Anyway u got no worries, as edward already changed fuel pump liao

The hiss/psst sound , I experience it before. But usually its when i stop the bike after riding it. But if its like what Simcerboy said, its TICK TICK TICK, its the fuel pump working.

My suspension is still not in. It was ordered in early Oct '04 and through major screw-ups by technoflex, postal system etc it is still not here. I am pushing to have it installed before the 24th so I can go on the Thailand trip, but with the track-record so far I am a bit of a pessimist.

 

If it does not arrive within the next week or two I will be looking around for alternatives - does anyone know of any deals out there at other shops than Mtechnik?

Called them already, they said now shipping in by dhl since my shipment got problem. they sending mine by postal system.

 

Anyway, Chan just called me saying that if not in by this week they will have technoflex send out another one by end of the week dhl and it should be here in time to change for the Thailand trip. Let's pray hard...
