I just called LTA and my insurance company. Told them I already have insurance for the bike but not registered owner and asked if will have any issues in any way. Both said as long I am insured to ride the bike, it is fine.

LTA said the insurance must cover till the road tax expiry date and during transfer, it has to be pre-dated.

Insurance company asked why haven't transfer, I said no time. They said the only issue they know is most likely the expiry of road tax. And they just said if possible get the ownership transferred ASAP.

Should I check with TP straight? My colleague's relative working as TP.

On paper, the law/rules states that one of you must be the owner of the vehicle for the insurance to be effective.

Why check here and there, out of phone calls and word of mouth, instead of getting paperwork all done proper so there are no issues to debate?

It can be a heng suay thing. Who knows the next prosecutor is going to be lenient or strict about the laws and rules if you get into these situations?

The bike is sold to me by a friend based and still on installments. Both of us thought as long got insurance it is fine. Anyway, just curious to find out. Even LTA and insurance agents said the same thing. But when I emailed them, the answer is different. Have to be registered owner to be covered by the policy. And yup, we got the transfer done :)

on the phone, they can say all they want but when thru email and on black & white, nobody wants to commit to you the wrong thing. good thing that you have done the transfer.

By Mouth, anyone can claim mis-interpretation.

Besides, those handling the phones, may not be people that actually rides and understood the nitty gritty portions of how it actually works, versus what they only know by paper.

just curious, guys, on the topic of being overseas.

if i make someone my sub-rider cuz i'm overseas and unable to look after bike, what kind of authority does a sub-rider have?

can sub-rider push my bike out for sale and succeed in doing so without my permission or authorisation?
