Hello, noob biker here. can i ask if a bike has been overhauled does that mean there is something wrong with the engine? Does overhauling only provide a temporary solution to the bike? my fren once told me a 4 Stroke bike that has been overhauled would mean its a bad bike to buy. any truth to that? Thanks for the inputs.

Two sides to the story.

1) Some riders ride the bike with minimal service or like delivery riders use it for pretty much of the day . That would of course mean much more wear and tear . So one fine day the engine gives up and gets a breakdown , parts get broken literally inside the engine (usually piston jammed, broken push rod/rocker arm or a damaged camshaft/crankshaft/drive axle) and the bike needs to be towed and overhauled . This will be a case of a work-horse and I will tend to sway to the side of not getting the bike and move on to the next one.

2) Some owners like to do up their bikes . Servicing and overhauling their bikes according to the manufacturer's guidelines stated in the owner's service manual. This would maintain the youthfulness of the bike and mean that the bike would be healthy and runs efficiently and effectively . This would be a case of owner taking care and pampering his baby once in awhile.

Double-edged sword.

Advise - Look carefully and see which is which. An overhauled bike would definitely mean that the bike's heart (the engine) would be new at those components changed and maintenance free for at least four to five years.

Doing everything DIY that I can now.. Judging by the way things are rite now , it is for the best..

Makes you stronger and less dependent on bike shops.

Encourage others to do likewise and help new riders identify fair deals online~ thus making direct seller to buyer purchases.

Its the only way we can push the motorcycle industry in Singapore forward.
