If you're riding a bike but not calculating the 50 possibilities in the 50 meters of road ahead of you, then you're dangerous and shouldnt be on one.

Hi MaxSym riders. I do intend to get a maxsym 400 myself but main concern is actually the handling. Just wish to ask if any riders can share their experience changing from standard bike to scooter in the area of handling and things to look out for.

I'm currently riding a fz1 and the reason i am changing is becoz i feel slightly tired and would like to change to a easy, comfy ride instead. Also, due to nature of job, traveling distance will be hugely reduced in the future thus fz1 will be too much.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and advices.

PS: in the first few pages where u guys were talking about buying the bike 1st hand, i read that it is recommended to get 1st party insurance. Could any1 explain why?

Scooter is definitely easier to handle compare to normal bikes due to its low centre of gravity

It is also much more comfy

Ur clothing will b more clean cos u r covered more

So u r more protected from the rain too

More storage

Auto gears add to the ease and comfort

Dun wait just buy

Why tis brand than other brand?

Cheaper

Tried and tested to b reliable for at least 3 yrs?

Most important give u option to go to JB for cheaper parts

And most important of all

Many many nice and friendly maxsym owners around to share ideas and know how

Oh? Easier to handle? My 1st impression few years back just round the carpark on X8 was much harder to handle.

lol, yes i have sort of decided, will book on Mon!!!!!!!!!!

Why this brand, i did a simple research and decided to look into the follow models

Honda Silver Wing 400, Yamaha TMax 530, Majesty 400, Kymco Xciting 400, Piaggio MP3 300, Xevo, X10, Aprilla SR Max 300, MaxSym 400

In the end, after going to view all the above models and reviewing myself, i left with MaxSym 400 and Kymco Xciting 400.

Honda and yamaha i find more expensive for the same cc and cant really convince myself that it is so much better and thus the price.

Majesty was too classic for me, i prefer a modern look.

Aprilla SR Max 300 was a huge attraction. The look is really really nice. Sure eye turner on the road. BUT too small for me, it is more like a runner than a maxi scooter.

Piaggio, i had intended to focus on MP3 but sadly only 300cc version available and again, the bikes were all more expensive and same reason as Honda, yamaha.

In the end, y did i choose MaxSym? I do believe in things such as fate and it happens that when I went to the main distributor Motor Sports, the demo bike was not there. Mah Motor had the bike for me to view to my heart's content and I do like it. Looks wise, seat wise, handle bar distance, side mirrors were fine. Thus my 1st choice.

For the JB Sym shop, i read about it but sadly i'm not too keen to go into JB. but i guess if i do get the bike, i will leave this option open.

FB page? I thought have to be sym 400 owner to join? Ok i'll request so as to read more about this bike. thanks!

bro @danielling1981 the handling on the maxsym is great. balance is pretty good. riding position comfy. cornering is good too! (can ask those who went up to Cameron with me recently. all attack corners like motogp! haha!). its not a boring scooter definitely. maintenance costs is not too bad as well, plus relatively good fuel consumption. but one warning is the bike is plagued with a vibey transmission. many of us lived with it, but at the same time quite a number jump ship due to this. for me, i service it more frequently and its not bothering me too much.

however, if you can afford it, i would encourage u to go for the silverwing instead. its transmission and engine is so much smoother. in the long run, parts are cheaper as well. if buying brand new and keeping for more than 5 years, i think it will make up for the initial cost + resale value better.

maxsym has its flaws and downsides but thats what you get for the price. all in all, its value for money, but its definitely not the best. i'm very happy with my maxsym because for what i'm paying, i still can have a lot of fun and practicality. be it going to the nearby shops or taking the bike across the border.

Well I have already booked and deposit. Getting it next Fri or Sat. Lol. Your good comments is exactly what I am looking for in my next bike.

I think I'm willing to live with the flaws since if I were to get a silver wing is 7k more. Looking forward to getting on the bike now that the tough decisions is over. :)

- Its more like $12k+ OTR.

- Same filter as burgman but engine isn't.

- belt is ard $170 (w/o labor) and recommended @ 15k km, though some have made it safely to 20k km

- many shops have it, but mah being the agent, so do ur homework and shop ard. Better to get the answers from the shop u buying from.

- spare parts can get from Weda @ rowell rd if u choose to DIY

- valves are tappet type

yup the taiwanese brands are catching up real quick. may not be on par with the japs, but almost there, yet still offer really good value-for-money. if u want more in terms of aesthetics, can take a look at the kymco xciting 400 as well. to me looks better, but not sure in terms of reliability since its new. at least maxsym have been ard for almost 2 years now. most of the defects are ironed out in the later model and the common issues are known (and rectifiable).
