Hi, I recently accepted a $100 deposit from a buyer of my bike. long story short, he took a photograph of my IC after handing me the $100 cash.

What I am afraid of is, is it risky for a stranger to have photographs of my IC?

I do not have any information on him other than his phone number. We are supposed to go to LTA around 10 days later cos that is the only time he is free.

Is it possible that he uses the photographs of my IC for any illegal activities and should I be worried? or is this a common practice when buyers place deposits?

okay. thanks bro i feel better now. first time selling bike so not sure. but then again i think about it, when go to lan shops IC is also left there. that's even more dangerous since the physical IC is there.

haha i actually told him i could make the transfer anytime but he said he was going overseas for a few days.

dont worry. loan shark also not so stupid to take photographs of IC. like you mentioned, lan shops and plenty of places retain your IC. god knows what they can do with it. but i think as long as actual IC is not with another party, there is nothing much they can do. even u go sign handphone line need actual IC.

I usually take photographs of the other parties IC and let the other party take pictures of mine at LTA before the transfer, whether I am buying or selling. just so that u know who u are actually dealing with and to protect both sides.

Another way is to ask the other fella to pass you a copy of his IC "just in case".
