Hi Bros/Sis,

I would like to garner support from all our riders to help the less fortunate. There are so many welfare associations in Singapore but I support Handicaps Welfare Association(HWA) the most due to a simple reason.

I got into an accident back in early 2009 and I had juz completed NS. I had difficulty finding a stable job as there was an economic crisis and was still a greenhorn. When the accident happened, i was really clueless on how to survive financially. Yes I do get family support but there's only so much they can do for u. When i was about to get discharged, i needed to purchase a wheelchair and that would already cost $300+. My rehabilitation process would take about 6mths hence that $300 could go a long way since i was jobless and had no insurance. Even if u had insurance, probably u'll get the money like say 1-2 yrs later? So wad r u goin to do during the meantime if u had no money?

HWA was nice enough to actually loan to me their wheelchair at no cost! All i had to do was pay a deposit of $100(i tink dat was e amount) and when i am done with it, i can return back the wheelchair to them and get back e deposit money. In SG, its almost impossible to get anything free..mebbe free WIFI. So in that aspect, I am really grateful to what they have done for me. If u have friend or relatives whom got into a accident recently(touchwood) and require a wheelchair, I would advise you guys to go HWA to loan a wheelchair if they have it in stock.

There's always so much talk about buying insurance to cover yourself but when bad things do happen..u realli need to scrimp and save whatever money u have. Here's their website: http://www.hwa.org.sg/ . If u do have an unused wheelchair or crutches or whatsoever at home, you can donate to them. And who knows, you could be helpin a bro out there who got into an accident.

I do not profit anything from this. I am just sharing my experience and my support to this organization. Who noes, 1 day if we cn get more volunteers, we can do a charity ride for them. But dats all empty ideas for now. Cheers! Ride Safe!
