Hi,

I was involved in an accident on 25/11/2011 at 2300hrs. A citycab taxi wanted to make a U turn and I followed behind him. However, the taxi did not complete the u turn and I stopped behind him. The taxi then immediately reversed and knocked into my bike, causing it to fall.

At first, I thought it is only minor damage so the taxi driver and I decided to settle on the spot and he gave me S$25/- for repairs and we exchanged phone numbers and take note of our license plates.

Once I bring to shop, turns out it is more than just minor damage. Aside from a broken clutch lever, my handle bar is misaligned and has a cracked left handle bar. The workshop quote repair price as S$168/-

I decided to call the taxi driver but he never return my calls or answer my SMS to renegotiate. So i decided to make a claim against him.

I already made a MARS report within 24hrs and their officers have already went to the workshop to take peekture. This was on 26/11/2011.

The workshop said they will try and proceed with my claim. They told me they faxed the report to the other party on 29/11/2011. Today they informed me the other party wants the workshop to get an approved surveyor to come down to take picture of my bike but told me because of long holiday, the earliest the surveyor will come is on Tuesday.

So my question is,

1) is claiming tried party directly a wise move? Because I read online there's a fidrec-non injury motor claim for claims less than S$1000/-

2) I do have a witness but so far my workshop haven't give him a call yet, should I go to meet him and secure a statement myself? I have a soft copy of a MARS witness statement form.

3) I read from LTA website that the other party has 48hrs to get the surveyor down to inspect my vehicle. After 48hrs, if surveyor never come, workshop can start repair regardless. Is this true? And does the upcoming long weekend an excuse for then to get the surveyor late?

Thanks... even though that didn't help... :S

I can pay for the repair myself but I really don't want to pay for someone else's mistake...

Anyway, I decided to buy one of these from ebay to prevent future accident disputes...
