Hey guys. I need your opinions and feedbacks. Recently my bike suffered a piston jam while i was riding to work. So after towing to shop, i need to change my block and do a overhaul. Luckily for me, my conrod is still ok. Due to some financial problem, i decided to change to a set of used block that came together with the piston, piston ring, pin. According to the mech, it was from a bike that scrapped recently.

So my questions are.

1. Do i still need to run in?

2. Is it safe to change to a 2nd hand block and etc?

3. Any advice on running in?

thx

I never owned a 2T bike but logic dictates that,

1) Yes you still need to run in as the block is still new.

2) It would be safe, but it really depends on the condition of the the old piston.

3) Try to get a new pin and piston rings at least. And pour 2T into the tank so you dont get a piston jam again.

just curious, the block & pistons are used, not new. why need to run in? i jam my piston before. changed used piston, conrod, top engine cover. never run in....

How to explain ah... Different parts still need to 'run in', because they are different. Its like, i got 2 different teams. I still need to introduce them together. So its like a different top block, piston, piston rings and pin............. and the conrod and everything else below it. The used top part is used to the old engine. But it must get 'used to' the new engine that it was put in.

Even so, if he replaces the piston rings and pin, still need to run it to seat the new rings with the old block.

erm, ok. so you mean even if we just change piston rings, we need to run in too? good, thanks.

Yes. You need to even if the piston rings are changed.
