Hey,

What are the items used to clean the bike?make it shine like new?:p

Step 1 : Clean all chain and grease away from bike 1st.

Step 2 : Wash bike with a shampoo

Step 3 : Clay the bike paintwork with a clay-bar

Step 4 : Wash with shampoo again

Step 5 : Dry the bike

Step 6 : Clean the bike paintwork with cleaning polish

Step 7 : Remove stains and fine scratches with polishing compound

Step 8 : Wipe bike paintwork with 75% alcohol (can get from pharmacy) to remove oil.

Step 9 : Clean and protect metal parts (can get those 2 in 1 but not very lasting)

Step 10 : Applying of sealant follow by wax for a wet look.

This process can last your bike for a good 3 months with just minor maintenance. Alternatively, u can look at applying a PPS(Paint protection system) on your paintwork and it normally last a year hence reducing your effort to constant polishing.

Hi firestorm_33

May I know how do I clean my chain and grease away from my bike?

- some prefer kerosene, some prefer WD40 etc.... i using GT85....

I can just wash my bike with any type or brand of shampoo?

- Any type also can,it's abt individual preference. some even use mama lemon which take away the wax coat but avoid washing powder because of its small particles which can create swirls to the surface of the paintwork....

Where can I get the clay-bar & and how do I clay my bike?

- go to maddetailer.com and u can get your answers there. alternative autopia is another one to read up.

Where can I get cleaning polish, polishing compound, what I need to buy to clean and protect metal parts?

- all easily available in maddetailer.com

Where can I get sealant and the wax to get those wet look?likewise, as mentioned in maddetailer.com

Hi bro firestorm is gt85 a good engine degreaser? Im using mama lemon (dishwashing SUPER degreaser :cheeky: ) n a non-scratch scrub pad to remove grease. It work wonders on my rims but not on the engine, especially those stubborn stains n grimes. Or any engine degreaser tat can make a 14-yrs-old engine shine again?

And ive always ends my washing session with an armorall liquid polish which says on the bottle can clear any light scratches n fibe swirls but alas its all empty promises, though it does make the bike shines...so now no choice have to finish the bottle..anyone found any scratch or swirl remover tat works?

U mean on engine covers? Gt85 in general degrease and protect with a thin layer of coating but not that long lasting. As for those very stubborn type, u may want to try using those industrial ones which is really very powerful but if not careful with it, will stain even more cos it "eat' the stains away leaving lighter shades of your engine cover.... sometimes quite uneven.... my suggestion is try a few more user friendly type of engine degreaser 1st before going into industrial type.

swirls or scratches can only be remove 100% by using a buffing machine to buff off a very think layer of clear coat.... most of the stuff in the market avail to be done by hands are mainly lightening & cleaning the surface coat making it less obvious to our naked eyes. One way to minimise swirls is when polishing, to use a up down or left right method instead of the circular method unless u very sure that the polishing compound that u are using has no fine particles which may not be easily seen by our eyes. Autoglym auto resin polish is a example of abrasive polish which has fine particles in it.

oh by the way, mama lemon is not really a super degreaser as it main purpose is oil removal....plus it's very hand friendly.... so not so acidic but definitely cheap and good if mainly for light-mid degreasing ....if u really go industrial type, it will etch on your hand like ants bitting on it....

What would you suggest for a cheap non abrasive soap?

Removing the wax later is a bad thing right?

Hmm.... there are lots of brands out in the market that are really cheap.... if u are a regular washer(ie; 2-3 times a week), i would suggest go for those 2 in 1 as they contain some wax which can last u a day or 2 else u can use mama lemon to wash 1st if u intend to polish your bike.......

Removing the wax later is a bad thing right?

if the intention is to polish, then removing the initial wax left over & "created by 2 in 1 wash" is a good to do thing as u will be polishing to remove the dirt from the surface after which u layer a sealant follow by a layer of wax for protection.

As most of the polishing stuff in the market contains wax already which is why many people thought that once they polish it, it's done..... but actual fact is that this thin layer of wax will not last more than 2-3 weeks. Some not even 1 week.

That's why it's necessary to layer a sealant follow by a layer of wax after the cleaning polishing process so that the wet look and shine can last long with min. maintence.

Of cos, if the intent is just to maintain, then removal of wax is definitely a no no.... which is why most of the groomers in the market hardly use mama lemon for washing. Most of us uses car shampoo which has some wax content.... then we clay the surface with the "help" of the shampoo so that the surface will be smooth before we start doing the cleaning polish process.... then to protection process...

another factor to consider is that as we are in a humid high country and our weather conditions are more often more harsh than other countries henceforth, products that seems best in other countries may not really be best in our local weather till it's proven to be able to utstand our weather condition.

this is also many reasons why overseas created Paint Protection Systems to help protect the paint surface which some had proven their durability in singapore.

Lol... long time no see bro.... u can actually get most of the stuff from maddetailer.com as he does delivery for $80 and more.

would suggest a no rinse shampoo or normal shampoo 902... metal brighter for metal and aquawax 951 for wax. all these makes your job easy especially if u not intending to go into depth like what i do... :)
