dear bro, friendly greetings 1st,

1) your question is too generic, which model of bike are you talking about? imagine asking the same things about 4-stroke bikes, the answers will differ from wave to super4, right?

2) 2-stroke or 4-stroke, fork oil, bearings, cone, brake pads, tyres, sprocket & chains, wash carb, change piston etc etc etc depends on your bike & more importantly, you! you want to be fussy, read the manual or ask experienced owners of the model you buy. If you are less fussy like me, then do it only when there are problems. less "mo" ( touch ), less "tor" ( problems ). learn it the hard way or easy way is up to you.:p

3) basically, 2-stroke means you have to top up your 2t regularly. this is NOT an option. you inexperienced? then just top up your 2t into the bike's 2t pump everytime you pump petrol. Noob better not try premix ( strictly for old birds imho ) if you dunno, ask the seller of the bike. the rest is almost the same as 4-stroke bike.

that is all, really :) unless you want to be a "motor" expert, that is a different story...:p

1) congrats on getting imho a cheap, reliable but yet despite that is essentially still a FUN enjoyable easy to ride bike.

2) i have ridden all 2 stroke bikes for 2 decades, all 2nd hand old bikes, all without manuals, i still don't know how to "maintain" & "fix" them! :p

although i learned almost nothing technical about bikes, i do learn a few important things :-

3) finding a good, skillful yet honest ( still chop you, only chop less & don't anyhow chop ) mechanic / motortiam is the most important thing. more important than knowing how dry clutches differ from wet clutches.:p. the road to finding such mechs / shops in singapore is the main & most difficult part. they are quite a number of good guys out there but you will need to work really hard to go find out who they are. test & measure, learn from experience. that is life! that is all, good luck!

4) normally, old bikes usually have problems that need to be fixed. that is why you need to find mechs YOU can TRUST asap.

5) most of the times, with the exception of accidents, most of the trouble with old bikes are that previous owners spend too much money & time modifying their bikes. instead of making them better ( usually happens only when you are a real professional bike engineer / mechanic ), the bikes end up worse ( what usually happens when wannabes are learning to be pro :p )

6) so when in your initial year, will probably end up correcting thost "honest mistakes" by previous owners. when everything returns to stock, the troubles will disappear. if they re-appear again quickly, it usually means your mech is not as "good" as you presumed.

7) all other "consumables" stuff like cone, bearings, pads, etc just change them when they are "finished". how fast they are used depends on your riding style. i trust my own bike's feedback gained from riding & honest advice by trusted & proven mechs more than a random figure on a manual. if you are sick, go see doctor now, not see doctor every 6 months cause stats show the average person is sick twice a year. :p

8) after some time, you will realise like the top part of this post is the less things you change, the less things you will need to change. truly honest mechs will tell you the same thing. the less "mods" the less "trouble". still want to change to premix? it is your money:p

following the maintenance schdule is preventive maintanance..

it is not cheap to do...but you can rest assured your bike will be in great shape..

you know old bikes just like old people...sick or not also regularly go for check up...haha...

premix?? just readjust your 2t pump to your require ment....

worry about piston jam??..hey how many have you heard ?? maintain your bike properly and ride normally it will just perform beautifully..

unless you are abusing the bike...riding at top speed /full throttle all the time....then piston jam..

I do regular servicing of spark plug and engine oil like for 2-3 month. I jam once before luckily car took notice of me ! zzz. its a ringing sound that always come out from my bike , i bring it to service already change piston head..etc. (which i dont really know the process) after running in period gone , and the ringing sound is back . this is what i fear and it happens again . Topspeed ehh? haven really tried but that period before my bike jam it could only go max 130km/h like lose alot of power and stress sound like that. Now, 140km/h only i think .. as you know old bikes meter not accurate one

i found out its somehow its my partially my fault for that small mod. i downfork and been thru on some hard hump and theres the sound from my fork or wheels. haiya i know its hard on getting a good trustable mechanic, its parts and parcel of life gaining this such experience ! HAHAH you sound damn experience in this post !LOL maybe your english better in composing this post.maybe meetup for kopi-session uh ?! i used to have a mechanic at jurong port rd (but he quit le)

sometimes i go others bike shop they brainwash me " (change this and that which i didnt believe cause some of the symptoms did come out )! really damn those people for wanna cheat $ of ours.

dry clutch ??! isnt that mostly for big bikes?

. peace out :D V
