hi all, is there a cold or hot check for bikes regarding the EO level?

becoz when hot, EO will expand and level is not accurate. i read a few bike's manual, they only state check when eng is cooled down.

P/S: i do those tank EO level checks every morning. cold check first den hot check. they are fairly accurate.

No more regrets.

If the microscopic difference in oil level due to engine oil expansion/contraction is significant. You might want to consider other factors that may affect the oil level/accuracy. Followings are some I could think of:-

- Ground levelling, do you park your bike on a perfect level floor when you check the oil level?

- Tyre air pressure, tyre wear, suspension pre-load setting, suspension wear, additional load (rear box), fuel in the tank will alter the oil level in the engine sump by a few micrometer at the point of the dip stick/sight glass.

Cold engine will have a higher oil level in the oil sump/pan because engine oil that pumped to the various parts in the engine will drip/flow back to the bottom of the engine due to gravity when the engine is stop running.

If the manual states checking the engine oil level when hot/cold or 10 minutes after stopping a warm engine, I will follow because that will give a more accurate reading.
