When doing the slope should I be in gear 1 all the way? If in gear 1 I thought should not release clutch fully? Referring to one of rijac's tips below.

3. while stepping on foot brake, release the clutch to biting point, and rev a little bit with the throttle, when you feel the bike start to bite - signal away from the kerb, check safety and move off by releasing the foot brake and increasing throttle. maintain half clutch/biting point until you clear the top of the slope/hill and then release clutch fully. important - only check back once you have released the clutch to biting point.

hi you can enter the slope in gears other than 1 but when you stop, you need to change to 1st to move off and then release the clutch fully.

Instead of memorizing the steps, think about what you need to achieve. You need to:

1) come to a complete stop. - You need to remember down gear to 1 before stopping.

2) move off from the complete stop. - After moving off in gear 1 and going down the slope, you can either remain in half clutch and use more of the manual brakes, or you can release the clutch fully and use more engine braking. It doesn't matter which you choose, as both are acceptable. I prefer to fully release the clutch, but it all boils down to personal preference.

3) stop shortly after moving off (at the base of the slope). - combination of engine brake and foot/front brake should help u stop smoothly.

As long as you can achieve the three objectives above, the method you use doesn't matter.

As expected, I managed to fail spectacularly. Slope wasn't too bad. Fig 8 was as I'd forseen; terrible. But it was at crank that I realised I have a previously unknown phobia of sharp right angles. Got to know every inch of the kerb today.

Thanks @ber, I'll try that. I know I just need to keep practising until I get it.

Here's my cheat code for u:

(1) accelerate towards the crank, clutch in and up gear,

(2) use momentum to freewheel into the crank, with your head at all times facing 90 degrees (into the course),

(3) once in the midsection of the crank, release the clutch and tap rear brake to moderate your speed.

It'll be a breeze after a few practices.

@timewalker84 Can freewheel ah? OK. Thank u, saved to brain. :)

As long as you don't wobble during freewheel, you won't be penalized. To avoid wobbling, don't brake while freewheeling.

@Crystalberry if you you turn right into the slope without stopping and you are going straight up to the top you cannot be in gear 1. Only if you had to stop at the base than you can go up the slope in gear 1. For crank you must look where you are going I.e look right not down at the corners. And you must be in second gear even if you get away with free wheeling. If you exit the crank in anything other than gear 2 you will get points for incorrect gear unless you had to stop for traffic at the exit

Maybe can find a way to work around that... ;)

Well if you're a cute girl, perhaps all you need to do is flash a bit of thigh. If however you're Rijac, the thigh trick won't work. It'll backfire and you'll find yourself unable to book any TP date before 2017.

When tp stopped me he asked for my insurance. When I said I didn't carry with me he didn't penalise me but the fact that he asked means in theory we supposed to carry
