easy rider, whats the fastest u gone on your FJR

mine so far is 145mph (yes my speedo is in miles for some reason )

wait ah i calculate so tt about 232 kph

At this point my ball size about 1/infinity , so did not go further

and just checking, where is your red line rpm mine is 17-18K which is weird considering my other frens litre bike which hits red at 11-13K. How come mine so high, is yours the same, yamaha trademark?

Anyway at 6-7 rpm the bike goes smoother, then at 10-12 wahhhh slipstream

Your speedo is in miles cause its a bike meant for US use (nothing wrong with that). Dealers in Singapore import bikes from both Europe (metric) or US (imperial) markets. There is a slightly higher chance that it is a parellel importer, but its hard to tell for Yamaha, because Hong Leong takes US market bikes too.

The RPMs on your bike depends on the bore and stroke of your engine, wherether its a square, undersquare or oversquare engine. An oversquare engine with a bore longer than its stroke and can rev higher, but at the expense of low-end torque. An oversquare engine will typically produce more horsepower and less torque than an undersquare one.

Your bike has an oversquare engine R6: 65.5 (bore) x 44.5mm (stroke)

My FJR is a less oversquare engine (almost square) 79mm x 66.2mm

A harley on the other hand has a longer stroke than bore: HD 883: 3.00 in. x 3.81 in

Sports bikes tend to rev very high, and need to be water cooled to compensate; the more the revolutions, the higher the friction. Undersquare engines may be air cooled(but not always). As a rule a undersquare engine will be very torquey and fast off at the red light--- However, many undersquare bikes are designed to be very heavy (i.e. choppers and customs) so you will still be faster due to power-weight ratio differences. Higher rpms does not translate to higher speed on different bikes...

The FJR redlines at 9,000 rpms. I will decline to post how fast I have gone (being staff at NUS) but I can say that it was designed to travel without vibration at 260 km/h. Travelling fast is a lot less scary on a bigger bike, as you have increased stability. I estimate that if you can make 230 on a R1, then 280+ on a hayabusa should not be a problem for you. At that speed, your problem is not stability; the busa and blackbird are incredibly stable bikes (and yes, I know people who have hit 300 with them) its making sure that you don't end up a smear on the landscape due to suddenly appearing cars, changes in road direction or obstacles (and at 300, everything is VERY sudden).

last time got 1 biker in US rode, if i still remenber 300mph (480kmh).. all patrol car cannot catch up, and they use helicopter to locate him..

in the end catch him in his house. because of this speed, then experts say it's not possible on that engine, aerodynamics crap.. but he was really clocked 300mph by police

i wonder if anyone still remember this news? this is in the news last year, i think

heh heh, ok i gotcha. Don wanna tell top speed is it :sian:

Anyway didnt know about oversquare and underquare engine, maybe will read up more during the hols. My knowledge is limited to 2 strokers. Thanks

P.S. don anyhow speed in Malaysia, got a lot of malaysian TPs rounding at night and they have hot spots with hidden cameras. If u not careful on the way back at the JB custom, after the passport area, they may stop u and do a com check to see if u have any outstanding fines.

My fren went to KL using the NS highway and was slapped with 13 counts of speeding, amounting to over 1 K ringgit i think. Be careful out there k

I suspect police calibration error. Riding on the ground at half the speed of sound is simply not sustainable on a normal road. It has been done before, on motorbikes in land speed trials on flat open desert lands. But this are with super modified bikes and on totally flat land, not roads.

Dave Campos, World Motorcycle Land Speed Record

322.149mph

14 July 1990

Bonneville Salt Flats, USA

This record was held for a very very long time, and it was a 3000 cc specially modified twin engined motorbike (yes TWO ENGINES).

Subsequent record was this:

The Feuling Advanced Technologies special construction motorcycle streamliner streaked across the famous Bonneville Salt Flats November 5, 1997, establishing a history making official top-speed of 332.103 miles-per-hour. Rider, Jim Feuling, achieving the fastest speed ever recorded for a motorcycle on his way to capturing two AMA (American Motorcycle Association) and two LSA (Land Speed Authority) world speed records in his single-engine streamliner.

hmmm are u sure not from the movie torque which is a rubbish show by the way to entice bikers like us to watch.

Anyway in the clips and motions got those nitrobusas going in xs of 300kph,

480 is freakin fast sia, quite impossible to control unless got super dampers or something

a possibility is that the police pointed the device up facing a slope..ended up tracking an aeroplane... it was featured on discovery channel, that urban legend show

From the ice cream man bike aka my little black lamb RX100..to All Blacks Bandit 400, to the legendary 1285 bandit;)

The 600s sports rev so much higher, even higher than litre bikes.

Btw which year is your R6? Is it analog or digital speedo?
