no comments cos it's not a very common bike. never try before also, but since it's a honda, the engine reliability is more or less there.

so i would assume,

1) you want a naked bike

2) you want a stable and comfortable bike for long distance travel

3) what else?

so what's stopping you from getting super4 then? other than the fact that it's common? being common is good you know?

1) higher resale value

2) easier/cheaper to get first and second hand parts

3) more mods to do

4) more people to share their experience

5) more shops/mechanics to repair the bike

price around the range of super 4 - say budget not more than 7k-8k? must be really worth it for this price. best is below 5k.

shd be it ah. cant ask for too much.

price range is subjective, cos it varies with the age of the bike.

so other than super4, what are other options you are considering now? since you been to alexander village, i'm sure the bikes there are comprehensive enough.

GSR

1) like i say, styling which i think it's quite nice with undertail exhaust. The bike looks big with class 2 look.

2) Fuel consumption - i duno man

3) EFI should be better. Even though revo is EFI, but it's relatively new and hence not cheap.

4) like i say, monoshock, which is good for the occasional track sessions.

5) i duno how the resale value cos i never look out for its prices.

so have you tried GSR before?

Bandit - best to ask chee siong, but since he's trying to sell one now, he might give bias opinion.

1) but, it is cheap and relatively reliable.

2) fuel consumption i think slightly higher than super4.

3) parts wise, i'm not exactly sure though.

DRZ - sorry i'm a scrambler guy, so i'm always pro-scrambler one.

1) fuel consumption varies, really depends on riding style and mods. average about 23-24km/l

2) looks wise, sure to turn head if you customise your decals and stuff.

3) parts prone to stealing cos it's too easy to steal. i can take out any scrambler's carb in less than 5mins. Which means u must put in effort to cover your bike as often as you can, out of sight, out of mind.

4) track-worthy, both PG and tuas track.

5) if you got extra cash for offroad wheels, it's as good as having an extra bike.

6) no worries for parts.

7) if u succumb to mods, you must make sure your pocket is deep.

8) relatively easy to sell, resale value is quite ok, but if u mod heavily, be prepare to suffer quite a fair bit of loss.

9) engine wear and tear definitely higher than inline 4, as the piston is running at 4 times the wearing rate.

10) not so comfortable to travel because of single thumper, hence vibration.

too many factors...like i say..i pro scrambler one. haha

drz is the next super 4....

anyway i heard translap is v reliable...but its a old bike...and it looks like crap :p

or u can get a super 4 and mod it into a phantom

No regrets.

hahaha. xr4 cannot lar! not tall enough. can meh short short ppl??

Power is nothing without control

Posted

that's gonna take hours leh. hahaha

Why xr4?

1) Air-cooled -> no need to worry about topping up coolant, flushing coolant, cracking radiator (radiators are not cheap, mind you) especially when you go offroad. but of course, being air cooled means heat transfer efficiency is not as good as water-cooled bike (ie, drz, wr4, ktm4 etc) and hence xr4 has the least power compared to the rest of other scramblers.

2) No battery -> no need to worry about battery flat, no need to change battery, lesser weight but if you offroad often, you will wish your bike has electric start.

3) very good low end torque -> xr4 is a very good learning bike for wheelie because of very good low end torque.

4) cheap to buy/maintain - considered one of the cheaper bike to maintain, just change engine oil (1.7L) and oil filter religiously. and adjust tappet clearance when it gets louder.

ok i'm tired to type. hahahaha. anyone in sch? i'm at comcentre now!

aiya why pple always have the mentality scrambler not meant for those not tall enough....

can lower the height la....seat also can cut...worst case change the gears and rear brake to ur fingers

No regrets.

yeah, u can cut seat, can use shorter spring, change rear linkage, everything can be done. Customisable is the key.
