Yo. How did u do yr physical check? did u use a multimeter?

Since u were saying when u press START, no sound+Horn sounds weird, this 2 symtoms point to the battery. When my battery failed in June, my horn oso sounded weird.

Another thing is when was the last time u changed the battery? Good practice adopt by the lao jiaos here is change your Batt+ rectifier when the bike is in yr hands coz you do not know its servicing history in the hands of prev owners. Change them asap so u can monitor thier lifespan (typically 2 years).

and, did u always start yr bike up for very short trips? (this is no good for yr battery).

Only reason i can think of about your last question;

It started at the motordiam becoz during the time travelling there, the battery was been charged up sufficently by the rectifier for another start. Batteries will only get useful charging current from the rectifer when the bike's RPM is >4000 RPM.

Go check yr battery with a multimeter. It should not read any lower than 11V on standstill. And nothing lower than that when u on the ignition key.

Hey Shay thks man. U are right i went to motortiam yesterday evening my batt and rectifier were gone. Spend some money and everything is alright now.

Thks bro!!:thumb: :goodluck: :thumb:

no problemo! :thumb:

:btw: did u get the rectifier with cooling fins? very impt! coz the old design rectifiers have no cooling fins and heat-sink, very easy overheat and spoil.

remember these tips for as long as you are a rvfian!

1) try not to start yr bike for traveling short distances of less than 10 mins

2) use OEM 35W light bulbs

3) Use the new rectifiers with metal fins and heatsink plate

4) Install headlight s/w. OFF it when u dun need it..esp during startup.

5) get good quality battery like Yuasas.

6) Dun add too much unneccessary electrical gadgetry such as electric alarm, electrical horns as these things tends to load the NC's delicate electricals.

So far ride 1.5 yrs no problem exept once battery dying on me coz i kept going for a 3mins ride to a nearby Macdonalds at one time.

Guys,is it ok if i use a KNN air filter on my stock RVF?Will it "complicate" anything?Fuel comsumption, jetting, etc?

hey man Jungle boyboy is right. There are no K&N filters made for our RVFs anymore! They do at one time (long long time ago) but not anymore.

So what some ppl do is take the OEM air filter lid, cut out the 'paper' filter element, buy the standard K&N foam (or any other brands), cut it out to fit the oem air filter lid, apply some high-temp resisitant sealant and you'll have a modded airbox.

Upside of this is you save $$ in the looooooong run. becoz foam filters can tahan very long no need change. Just take out and wash with special oil.

Downside of this;

1) RVF's OEM filters are equally as good. But it was expensive at one time, putting customers off and when Honda lowered the prices, K&N had no competive edge in this market and stopped making rvf filters altogehter.

2) The 'mod job' must not be a half-fcuk sloppy work esp the sealant part or you'll get dirt gg down the carbs....not very good.

3) I think minimal tuning is required as the airflow characteristics is altered. Best is you do it with a factory jet kit to fully exploit the K&N airflow.

Hey Guys,

My turn to need :help: now....

Went to M'sia for some petrol. The Q was moderately long into M'sia... Engine temp as usual go up more than 1/2 but no overheat. S/w off engine several times. The usual stuff we do while Q-ing in the customs la....

Then...On the way back to S'pore. B4 i dismount my bike for S'pore custom checks, i cannot find Nuetral! After some manic struggle, i realised Neutral gear was engaged liao but the Neutral Lite never come on. After a few tries, i realised the Neutral Lite was abit intermittent (sometimes have, sometimes dun have).

So, while in Nuetral gear, i lightly tap the gear lever with my toe and the Light flickers on and off. Weiird! Riding back to Singapore for supper, the problem was still there when i stop at the traffic lites.

The problem went away after i finish my supper and was about to go home. Neutral lite came back on when my igntion was turn on. Tap/tap again on the gear lever to make sure , the Neutral lite did not flicker and was steady on all the way.

I'm thinkin this might be Heat related coz after bike cool down, no more problems.

ANyone here have a idea/experience/info to tell me whats gg on with my bike?

I hope its nothing serious, just indication problems only coz im not too sure how the Neutral lite works.

I am going to install grounding cables this week and will see what effect it has on the engine and the electrical system. Will let you guys know the result soon.

Look at the picture below. I got it from a NC35 owner in Japan. This should be the correct way to install it. According to him, He got more torque and his engine started effortlessly every time. Not to mention the regulator and battery lasting longer.

Hmm...though i am against this mod, but since some one from japan actually did it and has good experience from it...i think its worth a look or try.

TAchi, I'm gg to tabulate a list of rumoured or factual benefits below. If you can, Just cross out any that you feel is not true at all after your mod....

Grounding Likely Benefits

-------------------------------

1) Improves Torque (U either have to get yr bike Dynoed or there is no factual proof, or u can go by your 'feeling')

2) Engine Starts easily

3) PRolong Battery/Rectifer lifespan (this one we have to wait out and see... o_O )

:goodluck: in yr trial mod!

okay Shay, thanks for the encouragement. The deal is that if any of the above doesn't work, I will dismantle the cables and sell it to my friend for his Nissan March. I studied auto engineering and a bit of electrical as well. By theory, it should work provided its connected properly.

So earthing is so complicated. I had my earthing done with just two grounding cable. I had it done in a motortiam somewhere in Kaki Bukit, and was charge at $70. No wonder i actually feel no difference after the earthing. Do u know how many grounding cables are there? It seems like it has got a lot of wires connected to different parts of the bike.
