Here's how I know you ain't broke...

1. you're not broke with 4-5k in hand (let's assume you do).

2. the fact is, people with cash think they're broke but they're not, it's an illusion.

3. if you're broke you wouldn't have thought about purchasing a class2 bike worth 4-5k, so you're not broke.

4. if you're broke, you wouldn't be buying a bike as "secondary transport"

Now... with $4-5k you could get a Suzuki 750 SRAD, some guys are selling, ranges from 1k to 3.5k, depending on condition, mileage, etc. You could also get a Honda CBR 900RR.

sure thing :) finance minister's opinion very important one. actually your own also. take your time to find a bike. once you get one you'll be stuck with it and it's quite hard to make a change.

btw, something more to think about: insurance and road tax and fuel consumption is quite a bit more for a 1000+cc bike, compared to a 600+cc (of course ultimately depends on model, e.g. for my bike i can buy 3rd party since nobody wants to steal it). of course 1000+cc bikes are usually physically bigger and more comfortable for pillion. plus the engine just has more bottom-end. really depends on what you need.

there're plenty of choices for 4-5k, just maybe not the bikes you're looking for. if i had to advise i'd say: find out what you really want from the bike (maybe write it down), e.g. economy(costs), looks, transport, performance i.e. power and handling, pillion/luggage capacity, ease of maintenance, etc. then do some research to see what bikes there are that will be suitable. costs for a class 2 bike can be quite high also. insurance + tax alone might come up to 1k a year. some can also be more expensive to repair (especially the rarer ones).

if you don't need the bike urgently just take your time! something good will turn up one day. no need to rush. :)
