A-$50

B-$50

 

total :$100

 

i bought a pair of shoes.. costs $97....

 

$100-$97 = $3 left

 

i returned $1 each to A and B

 

i am left with $1 in my pocket

 

therefore i owe them $49 each

 

$49 + $49 = $98

 

$98 + $1 in my pocket = $99

 

where is the missing $1 ??

So when u pay them $49 to A & B each, plus what u have pay them previously,

($49+$1)+($49+$1)=$100

The Twist is...

 

Ladies and Gents, the $1 is NOT related to the $98 owing to the parties.

 

Instead, the entire equation "$98 + $1 in my pocket = $99"

is wrong.

 

$98 is what you are owing and $1 is PART of the money that u are supposed to return to the creditors.

 

so the correct equation should be:

 

$98(owing) = $1(in pocket) + $97(still pending)
