I sold my bike and retain my old number. Basically I took the deposit from the new owner first then i retain my number, and get a new number for my old bike. then ask then new owner to buy insurance on the new plate no.

Or u can try buying the insurance with the old plate no. once the bike plate no is change call the insurance company to change the plate no, it should also work.

I think this topic was not brought up before and not much people have the "know-how" knowledge. I have made 2 calls to 2 different insurance companies and have an answer now and would like to share it for others who might need to reference it in future.

1) NTUC will issue the buyer an insurance policy without a bike number. Once the transfer is done and a new number is given, the buyer can call and update them with the new number.

2) Direct Asia, buyer can purchase the insurance with the chassis number. Once the transfer is done, email/fax them with the relevant supporting documents for them to update the policy.

the changes can be done immediately and u can keep the number for 12 months. if u want to extend, u can pay another $1000 + $20 admin fee to keep it for another 12 months.
